(That takes into account the mandatory 21 day waiting period while the Ins Co waits for the po to find my car, and then [assuming it isn't found] the 6 weeks it'll take BMW to order a new car) On top of all that, if they only decide to give fair market value for my car ($44,500 according to KBB), that means I'll be getting screwed out of the $7,000 to make up the difference to rebuild the same car new... and I only had 4,900 mi on it!!! I seriously just want my car back.

OK, I'm done venting. All I can say is that I really hope the fuzz miraculously finds my car untouched, OR my Ins just really goes to bat for me in every way possible. Until then, I shall drown my sorrows in booze.
I don't think you car had 4,900 miles on it I think it had 1,900 miles on
it Repeat after me - my car had 1,900 miles on it now go tell the
insurance...

I feel for you bro and I really hope your car turns up somewhere untouched.
It's amazing how the police instead of being out there looking for stolen
property for their employers (tax payers), they prefer better to do things
like giving speeding tickets...I'm not saying they shouldn't do that but I'd
rather they prioritize better.

Keep us updated.

I mean. . . Not funny. This is a serious matter. I would be pissed if my neighbor stole my car.

Sorry OP.
I'll leave her alone.
Just know, I really feel for you man.
I had a dream my car got stolen lastnight.
I woke up to pissed, anxious, and sad! Glad it was just a dream.
Really sorry it actually happened to you.
seems odd she would leave a fob to a more expensive car in her own. don't marry this academic. smells odd but hopefully you find it.

Don't ask me how, I don't know. As you can see in the pic, it's got 19" Black Breyton Race GT's, dropped 2" on KW V3s, tinted windows and tinted blacklines. If you see this anywhere shoot me an email pronto!!

Thanks guys!

(First pic is pre-suspension upgrade)

you should be concerned about the insurance company. they will claim you are more than 50% at fault because you made no attempt to secure the fob. sounds like a settlement with a balance being due on the car to the the financing company. good luck..

I do. They said that as long as it's physically attached to the car (i.e. wheels, suspension, window tint, blacklines, etc.) then it's covered. I have to show receipts, but that's no big deal cuz I always keep those anyway. I'm gonna do all I can. I'm just angry cuz I'll likely have to wait 3 months just to get a/my car back to what it was pre-theft. I'm not gonna waste my time worrying about monetary differences until I know if there will be any. Right now it's more of a time issue. Wasted time waiting for the gears to turn, and wasted time talking to a million dift people about what happened.

How do you figure? Whether the key was locked in her car, locked in her apt, or in my posession, those seem pretty damn secure to me. Anyway, the car was paid in full. There's no debt on it.

I'll bet you the insurance company is reading this thread--as well as the police. Not that there's anything in here that would alter the investigation... just an interesting thought. Anyways I hope you do find your car back, it does suck. I had my car stolen before (92 Honda Accord and 05 Honda Accord--doesn't compare) but I feel your pain. Someone definitely used the fob in the Jetta. no brainer. I would never give my car key to someone else. Check around for your wheels on CL. Good luck.

Don't worry about what he says--that's ridiculous. If your car is stolen, it's stolen. There's no "at-fault".

I'm in the insurance biz

And no I don't sell

Tickets do.

That's awesome.
I was under the inpression that when your car is stolen you can consider anything aftermarket a loss.
They'll only cover your stock car.
But if they'll cover your mods than that's awesome!
So much money saved!

To be honest, I wish they would! It would save me all the time waiting on hold to tell them the same thing. But yeah, whether it's a bimmer, a vw, or a honda... a stolen car still hurts any way you slice it. Thanks shared feelings... as they say, misery loves company

Yeah, I was surprised myself. I thot they would write that stuff off. Luckily I have renter's insurance too, so even if it wasn't covered, I would use that... but then again I don't even know if that would cover the mods. Luckily, I won't have to find out.

Hell, for all I know, her friends are saying the same thing about me! I'd prefer that we leave the investigation to the police and BMW.

Thanks guys
She was the one with the key to your car, not the other way around. My thinking: If it wasn't an inside job, thieves broke into the garage. Knew that they couldn't hot-wire the BMW and went for the Jetta. They figured they couldn't steal the Jetta because the BMW was blocking it. In a last ditch effort to get something out of it, they broke into both cars looking for things to take and found the keys to the BMW in the Jetta, stole the Jetta and then hot-wired the Jetta and stole that, too.

So that's how BMW Assist worked when I was two stories deep in a concrete parking garage.

Well, the way tandem parking works is, you usually have the other person's car keys in your possession as well in case you need to leave earlier than they do, or vice versa. It's just convenient for both parties instead of having to wake or disturb the other to move their car.

I'm wondering, how is the chick handling losing her car? She going nuts? She seem indifferent? she getting any response from the police?

I disagree. This reasoning is ridiculous.
I doubt anyone would break into a garage and go through that much risk and trouble not to steal a car.
They had to have been scoping it out for some time. That is if, it was a complete outside party and not inside job.

Have you talked to her?
How does she act around you now?
What's going on with her car?
Did you have her key in your car?

Would gap insurance cover this sort of dilemma if that be the case or does it only apply to leased vehicles? I wonder.... best of luck to you man. Really sucks when this shit happens...
