The symptom is that your car doesn't start not that it doesn't drive. You managed to get it to work by flashing. The symptoms come and go..

If the DME cannot get a valid signal from the DKG indicating it is in neutral/clutch is disengaged etc then it can prevent the engine from cranking.
I'll post up something in a few hours when i get home. I printed off a lot of stuff from ISTA when i was battling the sudden cruise control failure. |

No jb4, am mhd flash tuned Car would start, if the green p on my shifter illuminated upon ignition, car would drive as normal. No illuminated p, no ability to engage gear. But the car would turn on 100% of the time As for driving, doing a 2 min quick reflash of my custom map on the first or second flash if necessary allows It to engage gear again. |

The only document i could find relevant was just a general diag guide for this type of fault, nothing groundbreaking..
- This type of fault is logged by the receiving control unit if it does not receive a message expected from another control unit. - Mainly occurs due to a physical problem with the connection - Could also be a short circuit on the bus line (to ground, to battery positive, or across each other) - Bad connection (corrosion, loose, dirty, bent pins, broken wire) - Faulty control unit (rare) Sorry it's not really of much help ![]() |

Yeah I did see a guy 12 months or so ago looking for one, I had put him onto a used M3 box but as hills had pointed out even though they're the same part # the starter is in a different position they got caught out (so that's at least 2 failed boxes that I know of)

Little update
Spoke to the dealer yesterday, there’s a $140 wiring loom inside the gearbox that I’m hoping the problem is. Bmw Germany has said to replace that, if it doesn’t fix it, it must be the mechatronics but DONT do the mechatronics without trying this. To replace this loom, gearbox oil is drained, transmission is separated from flywheel etc so labour to install is $4000 retail. I’ll be getting trade pricing If this doesn’t work, it’s mechatronics time Will know maybe end of today or definitely Monday. |

Will enjoy the piece of mind of a fully serviced gearbox with new wiring. They’re closed on the weekend unfortunately and may get offended at outside help, then hold it against me during pricing time. I’ve been extremely happy so far and have feel good about how they conduct their business. Appreciate the offer though! Hopefully, but I doubt it. That would be too easy :-) |

Keep us updated mate
![]() I've only gotten as far as taking out the clutch basket at training but the rest seems pretty straightforward, albeit uncharted territory for most dealers in this country |

Are you getting this work done through a dealer ? No wonder all the prices are absurd. Just get it done via a normal euro mech and save thousands.
At 3 to 4k for a gbox drain and refill and a 400 buck part your 100% being ripped. A drain and refil/service on the dct is an 8 or 900 buck job tops plus your part lol doesnt equal close to 2k let alone 3 and 4k and better still this may not even fix it lol Put a new box in for the same money and 100% fix it. |

Two people here have been quoted 2750 just to remove box, replace filters and gaskets and replace box. That was at a leading independent repairer here in Sydney
You could probably do a powerglide conversion cheaper lol

Most of the cost is in the labour and oil.
But getting the box out/in is not that difficult. A conventional auto or a transaxle R&R is only slightly more involved. Most independent shops wouldn't have the tool to suspend the gearbox and hold it so the input shaft faces up. Yes you could stand it up on the donut or output shaft but they'd be paying out of their grave if it fell and cracked. |

Parts ex Germany are usually 3 weeks approx. They sometimes show up earlier.
Even if they flagged it as a VOR (Vehicle Off Road) it would take about 7 working days at best. Pretty shit when you can get parts from the states over the weekend if you order on the right day! |

Also it’s a gearbox out job, not just a drain plug. Significantly more complicated. Quote:
