Ferrari Red looks great on Ferraris and British Racing Green works for British cars, I feel like these two colors look silly on anything else. Not sure exactly why that is, that's just my observation as a Designer. It would be like seeing a Coke can in lime green, and a Pepsi can in all-red. It just doesn't seem right. It's like if the McDonald's logo went from their red and yellow color scheme to now a pink and green logo. Maybe it's being pre-programmed. But colors are very powerful and they pull on your emotions, and instantly create a reaction. But for me personally it's all about the anti-bling, Triple Frozen Black, stealthed out. With that said I think it's cool that BMW is willing to offer "Ferrari Red" to the Ferrari fans but prefer driving a German engineered BMW. |

I was going to mention primer until I saw you'd got there first. Absolutely terrible colour.

FFS BMW, lets have some proper colour choices again, as its like living in the film set of an old black n white movie, and its bloody depressing.

I have two Canon 5D's, and the auto white balance sometimes doesn't like certain shades of green in certain lighting conditions, meaning, it will throw off the actual color being photographed. Use manual white balance, and yes I did just digress. I've seen some metallic BRG and that's not a good look for BRG. Last edited by RPM90; 03-30-2018 at 12:29 PM.. |

It used to be a no cost base color, like black or white. Melbourne red is nice. My 335i Msport was in MR. But, if the flat red were still offered I would have picked that with no question. My current 340i is the ever present and quite nice BMW silver. BMW's current 3 series colors are quite boring, because they have been around for years with only slight shade differences. How many versions of metallic black or dark gray does one really need to "choose" from? That gray does indeed look like primer in some shots. And even with the better white balanced photos it's still not a color I would pick. But I understand why some like it, as we have our own preferences. Last edited by RPM90; 03-30-2018 at 12:44 PM.. |

I'm as guilty as anyone, but I'm surprised nobody captured any images of the stunning blue M5 that was down where you pick up the Press Day credentials. Looked great!

I just used the VIN decoder and it is indeed British Racing Green. Now I'm sure I'm not getting that when my allocation comes up. I will never, ever own a car that may look that way in any lighting. UGH! Such a disappointment. It looks terrible! In other news, the M5 First Edition Frozen Red looks 1,000x better in person, as do the all black wheels.

you are a bit wrong here I think. The primer color is usually used to make the main coat appear as intended. Base coat is conditional on top coat used and what color effect you want to achieve. A silver paint over matte black, matte white, and gloss black primer will yield you different paint look. More likely they mix up a paint, and then pick a primer that makes it look as intended and doesnt detract. Gray is universal but white and black are usually picked based on color selected. I think gray is for white, white is for black, gray or pink is for red, and so on. Quote:
And I agree - with a black car all lines are hidden, and original BRG was almost black green. The F11 I have is first and last black car I wanna own I think, too much hassle and Msport trim is all hidden.

Individual should be used to respect the car and its status. Sure go wild on an M car. But a 7er should be done in taste to reflect the status of the vehicle.
Having a 7er in Fire Orange does not make the vehicle stand out for the right reasons.
