I purchased this and confirmed it works on my E61 535xi.

Would this allow me to convert my front end to M5 or normal RWD components while leaving the transfer case and no axles connected without system error?

Not sure. I’ve been chasing misfires and boost leaks for the last 2 years, but I will say the front end doesn’t vibrate as much as it used to.

Nope, after purchase of the license you can be offline forever. All necessary data is on your device.

EDIT: But we have some more ideas for the future, so you might want to update here and there.
Me i cant do the switch without wifi :/

FAQ

Q: What is this?
A: xDelete is an App for Android Smartphones/Tablets, due to release in Dec. 2018. It will enable you to switch your BMW with AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) to full RWD (Rear-Wheel-Drive) mode.

Q: Whats that good for?
A:
  • Being able to switch between modes, opens up various fun things. BMW and Mercedes understood that as well and made their latest and greatest AMG and M cars also switchable between AWD and RWD.
  • You get two cars in one. RWD in Summer, AWD in Winter.
  • Get rid of the understeery behaviour the xDrive system generates
  • Drift your xDrive properly in dry/wet conditions
  • Maybe do a burnout here and there
  • Protect the xDrive from too much torque in big power cars
  • As the xDrive’s transfer components fail here and there and are expensive, you may also just turn it off, instead of repairing.

Q: Is this only for Auto BMW?
A: No. It does not matter if your car is equipped with Manual or Auto Transmission.

Q: What about iOS/Apple?
A: Not yet. We will port xDelete to iOS somewhere in 2019.

Q: What hardware do I need to use xDelete?
A: Either a normal OBD INPA cable or Thor Wifi Adapter. Both available at www.bimmer-connect.com for EU and www.bimmergeeks.net for US

Q: Is this part of xHP?
A: No, it's a separate App and is not related to xHP.

Q: Is this bad for the All-Wheel-Drive?
A: No. It won't do any harm, to any components of your car.

Q: How do you do it?
A: We flash the xDrive ECU (called VGSG) with an altered dataset, to keep the transfer case clutch open all the time. This means, your front wheels won't be driven any more.

Q: Do I need to have my Android connected to car all the time?
A: No. You only need to connect it, when you want to switch between AWD and RWD.

Q: Does this affect the rest of the car?
A: No. You can use your vehicle normally and all other components will work just like they did before.

Q: Do I lose my factory warranty?
A: In theory, yes. Practically the usage of xDelete is not detectable for BMW testers or any other tool.

Q: Can i use xDelete permanently?
A: Yes, you can drive your car all the time in RWD mode. No downsides with that.

Q: How often can I switch between AWD and RWD?
A: As often as you like. There is no limit.

Q: Do I need a charger for flashing?
A: The flash is very fast. No charger needed.

Q: I use JB4...anything to know?
A: JB4 tends to disturb flash processes, even when set to Map 0. If the flash fails with JB4 on Map 0, please disconnect it for the flash.

Q: I use an Awron Data Diplay....anything to know?
A: Please turn it off for the flash. You can turn it on again afterwards. Same goes for similar displays.

Q: Will there be a special license for Tuners?
A: We will offer a yearly subscription service for Tuners. Please e-mail us at office@rbttuning.com for a quote.

Q: Will there be a Desktop/Laptop version?
A: No, we won’t port it to Desktop.

Feel free to drop your questions here, we'll be monitoring this thread on a regular basis and post all updates regarding release and future functions!
If i disable xdrive and leave it in rwd forever, would i be able to run a higher hp/tq setup without harming the transfer case?

Sorry but your car will only be slower with this due to lack of AWD grip. Everything still has to spin...it's just the rear wheels doing all the work to push the car forward/turn the front drive components. The reduction in hp on a dyno is only because the front stuff is no longer turning when on the dyno. Also there will be no reduction in gas mileage for the same reason. The only difference would be if your front/rear wheels were slightly different diameter then the transfer case will cost some hp/mileage due to inefficiency when in AWD mode.

Would this allow xDrive cars to safely run different sized tires front and rear when in RWD mode?

Wanted to give a quick review of the app. I bought the app and have been driving with RWD mode for 2 days.

My old car was 2003 328 RWD manual which I enjoyed, but had to sell for a newer car with automatic transmission. Current car is 2011 328 XDrive, automatic (GM transmission).

Here are my experiences:

-You have to open the app, connect your OBD cable and then make the purchase through the app.
-Took about a minute to flash.
-Everything went as described, flashed, turn off car, clear codes etc, no issues.

Driving:
-Steering wheel is lighter, feels just like my old RWD. No torque steer (not that a 328 has much of it to begin with).
-Coming out of corner, hard on gas, car no longer feels front end heavy. Feels responsive and light, just like the RWD did.
-While hard on gas on long sweeping corners, car responds to steering corrections just like the old RWD did. With XDrive enabled, car felt font heavy and responded to steering input less aggressively.
-DSC works just like it did on my old RWD.
-Power: Does not feel like the car gained any power, but it feels like it responds to throttle input better between 2-3k rpm. You know how you're driving at 4krpm at a constant speed, then you go 80% throttle and you get that little kick, and then car starts pulling? This is what it does at 2krpm now, where before with Xdrive enabled I had to be at 3krpm+ in order to feel it.
-Driving in the snow with XDrive disabled is the same experience as it was with my old RWD.
-Gas mileage: So far haven't noticed a difference, but its only been 2 days. I don't expect it to significantly improve.

Overall I'm super happy with it. This is pretty much exactly what I wanted out of this app. I enjoyed driving RWD and it feels like this is the experience I got back. I'll definitely switch back to XDrive during snow storms, and I really like this flexibility.

It's not a flash for your ECU (Engine Control Unit). It's a flash for your transfer case controller! (2 different things) So nothing to worry about.

Connect car, buy License in the App. You can't miss it, once the car is saved on the device.

We did our best to ensure running a staggered setup in RWD mode has no negative effects whatsoever on the transfer case. We ran the car on the dyno for extended time in 2WD mode, did multiple 120 mph+ runs (while front tires were standing still) on it and monitored the transfer case wear calculation and temperatures. All was perfectly in check. So overall we think it is 100% safe to run such a setup. You just have to make sure you have the right tires on, once you switch back to AWD. Otherwise you can run into troubles quickly.

My guess is 15WHP is lost due to AWD component parasitic loss and 15WHP is lost to front wheels/brakes when comparing RWD to AWD dyno numbers. So on the road around 15WHP loss to having AWD with or without Xdelete vs a true RWD car. I can see this improving the feel around corners but cannot think of any situation where the car would accelerate faster with Xdelete.

Im going to wait for the iPhone release since I have no android device, plus I can wait until winter is over to go RWD on my 328i xDrive.

Just installed app on '09 E60 535xi. Works brilliantly. Only issue I saw was a new code -- 54C6 Oil Wear after driving for ~10 minutes.

Transfer case oil was changed 2000 miles ago and adaptations were reset.

What are the thoughts there?

A: Not yet. We will port xDelete to iOS somewhere in 2019.

When it's ported to iOS, how does switching between AWD & RWD work?

Will the THOR dongle be the only way to use xDelete through iOS? Do Lightning to USB adapters work with K+DCAN cables on iPhone/iPad? What about on the new iPads with USB-C connections?

I was waiting for the iOS version since I have lots of iTunes credits, but if the THOR dongle is the only way for it to work on iOS, that added $65 cost might just make it moot.
