I purchased this and confirmed it works on my E61 535xi.
Would this allow me to convert my front end to M5 or normal RWD components while leaving the transfer case and no axles connected without system error? |

Sorry but your car will only be slower with this due to lack of AWD grip. Everything still has to spin...it's just the rear wheels doing all the work to push the car forward/turn the front drive components. The reduction in hp on a dyno is only because the front stuff is no longer turning when on the dyno. Also there will be no reduction in gas mileage for the same reason. The only difference would be if your front/rear wheels were slightly different diameter then the transfer case will cost some hp/mileage due to inefficiency when in AWD mode.

Wanted to give a quick review of the app. I bought the app and have been driving with RWD mode for 2 days.
My old car was 2003 328 RWD manual which I enjoyed, but had to sell for a newer car with automatic transmission. Current car is 2011 328 XDrive, automatic (GM transmission). Here are my experiences: -You have to open the app, connect your OBD cable and then make the purchase through the app. -Took about a minute to flash. -Everything went as described, flashed, turn off car, clear codes etc, no issues. Driving: -Steering wheel is lighter, feels just like my old RWD. No torque steer (not that a 328 has much of it to begin with). -Coming out of corner, hard on gas, car no longer feels front end heavy. Feels responsive and light, just like the RWD did. -While hard on gas on long sweeping corners, car responds to steering corrections just like the old RWD did. With XDrive enabled, car felt font heavy and responded to steering input less aggressively. -DSC works just like it did on my old RWD. -Power: Does not feel like the car gained any power, but it feels like it responds to throttle input better between 2-3k rpm. You know how you're driving at 4krpm at a constant speed, then you go 80% throttle and you get that little kick, and then car starts pulling? This is what it does at 2krpm now, where before with Xdrive enabled I had to be at 3krpm+ in order to feel it. -Driving in the snow with XDrive disabled is the same experience as it was with my old RWD. -Gas mileage: So far haven't noticed a difference, but its only been 2 days. I don't expect it to significantly improve. Overall I'm super happy with it. This is pretty much exactly what I wanted out of this app. I enjoyed driving RWD and it feels like this is the experience I got back. I'll definitely switch back to XDrive during snow storms, and I really like this flexibility. Last edited by andy86; 01-26-2019 at 01:25 AM.. |

We did our best to ensure running a staggered setup in RWD mode has no negative effects whatsoever on the transfer case. We ran the car on the dyno for extended time in 2WD mode, did multiple 120 mph+ runs (while front tires were standing still) on it and monitored the transfer case wear calculation and temperatures. All was perfectly in check. So overall we think it is 100% safe to run such a setup. You just have to make sure you have the right tires on, once you switch back to AWD. Otherwise you can run into troubles quickly. Last edited by RBT-Tuning; 02-01-2019 at 09:10 AM.. |

My guess is 15WHP is lost due to AWD component parasitic loss and 15WHP is lost to front wheels/brakes when comparing RWD to AWD dyno numbers. So on the road around 15WHP loss to having AWD with or without Xdelete vs a true RWD car. I can see this improving the feel around corners but cannot think of any situation where the car would accelerate faster with Xdelete.

Just installed app on '09 E60 535xi. Works brilliantly. Only issue I saw was a new code -- 54C6 Oil Wear after driving for ~10 minutes.
Transfer case oil was changed 2000 miles ago and adaptations were reset. What are the thoughts there? |

Q: What about iOS/Apple? A: Not yet. We will port xDelete to iOS somewhere in 2019. When it's ported to iOS, how does switching between AWD & RWD work?

I was waiting for the iOS version since I have lots of iTunes credits, but if the THOR dongle is the only way for it to work on iOS, that added $65 cost might just make it moot. |
