Sounds good! Time to take apart an HPFP and see if there's room for porting!

AMS, Welcome to the N54 world! I'm a big fan as well based on what I've seen you guys do with the Evo's. I especially enjoyed watching videos of your Evo take on all challengers on the highway and pull almost everything that bothered to show up. I'm anxious to see what you guys can do for us.
I know upgraded turbo kits have been suggested, but I'd also really like to see a lightweight turbo-back exhaust system that doesn't cost an arm, 2 legs, and 5 donkeys become available for this car. So far I've seen a lot of very expensive exhausts come out that have less than impressive gains, and also quite a few downpipes showing quite decent gains. I have confidence you guys can put together a full system that makes exceptional power with a tune. |

I see a lot of talk about changing the turbos to a large single or large double setup. Has anyone tried putting in a third small turbo? Would it give more boost with the lower lag we all knew and loved (pre 29.x)?
That's my idea for ya! |

![]() There is barely enough room for the current two small turbo's let alone adding a third turbo......and a triple exhaust would look bizarre anyway. ![]() |

Lol, if someone can fit a small block in a Miata, there would be room for a third turbo in a 335!!
True, triple exhaust would look bizzare, but I'm thinking it would be an easy mod to make. You'd have to redo the exhaust manifold to have 2 cyl feeding each turbo and probably the exhaust system to get everything to feed out correctly... but aren't the wastegates vacuum controlled? If you had a 3rd, identical turbo couldn't you plug it into the vacuum system the same as the others and make it work without having to overcome any electronic hurdles? Tell me if I'm wrong, all these ideas were dreamed up in the isolation of my head. I'm probably missing something here! |

Very slightly larger twins would be great for an efficient 400-450 rwhp car for the track with still little to no lag (assuming the wastegate issue introduced in 29.2 is resolved). You could even have a higher boost mode for 500'ish rwhp or so if needed for certain applications (like a drag/highway race). I guess the daily driver would stay with twins too, honestly if you aren't gonna race just pop on an SSTT and go cosmetic from there.
I think the single turbo option is gonna be the best straight-line racing option, with a larger single turbo to make 600+ rwhp (really the sky is the limit here, how fat is your wallet?). With a single I think you can really free up some space in the engine bay and have better cooling and efficiency. Downside obviously is gonna be some low end lag, not really a problem if you keep the RPM's higher. This can actually help launch the car in 1st gear which is the only gear you will ever see low RPM's in a straight-line race. I can only assume most tuners would come out with upgraded twins first, since less changes to the car would have to be made. Once you go single, now you are basically re-designing the entire intake/exhaust systems. |
