While my observation period is definitely brief, I have had none of the aforementioned issues and find the seats more comfortable than those in the M3 (I have the stock leather/alcantara ones, not the carbon buckets). It's a 2020 and they did make some updates then, but it's also my understanding that the electrical issues are mostly on the 17's or ones that sat for a while and drained the battery.

Driving the QV today I'm reminded that this has to be the car with the most left on the table from the factory. The chassis is so capable it could handle tons more power. Further it feels like it would easily rev well past its current redline. I hit the limiter more often in the QV than any other car I've ever owned. And as I mentioned there's definitely torque limiting in lower gears. Something that's not present in the Stelvio QV's I've driven. Not that it really needs more power but more is always fun. I'm dying to try a tune but I'm torn in giving up my lifetime warranty.

I can't imagine how great a QV would be on a b-road. I feel like the power in my 2.0 Ti is already enough on local canyon roads. I'm even able to get the tail out without much difficulty. A QV would be downright scary lol. The handling and steering response are just something else.

The Giulia, especially the Quadrifoglio, is the sexist sedan on the market for sure. It's timeless and will be regarded as one of the top 10 best looking and performing sedans of all time.
On the flipside, I have a friend that is an accountant at the local Benz/Alfa/Porsche/Jag dealer in Kansas City. The Alfa Giulia has been nothing but trouble for Alfa since it's introduction. She says the Giulia as gotten marginally better over the years, but is not a car she recommended ever taking 100 miles from an Alfa dealer. They're constantly coming in on flatbeds. Even the 2022s have been a reliability problem and electrical issues continue to plague the brand as a whole. The techs depise the brand because of how much time they spend troubleshooting electrical issues that they rarely get compensated for if the vehicle is under warranty.

I test drove a 2022 yesterday. Damn, I love the ride. It felt so much more unique than the M4 Comp xDrive I have on order. Such a great character, you have to drive one to feel it. Sound is incredible. The BMW for me feels super solid, but rather vague. From a driving standpoint, I absolutely prefer the Alfa. But reliability is a concern (no, I never owned one, but I can't ignore the countless issues I have read about) and the massive depreciation. I feel the BMW is a known commodity, and a solid car that should be dependable for years to come.

Great car for $55-60k; would never pay G8x money for it. Putting reliability to the side, interior and tech is barely better than that of a 2009+ E9x. Drives great with very impressive grip, but mainly on the PZero Corsa (basically, Pirelli’s Cup 2 “streetable track” tire). I’ve tried it on more normal tires, and it’s meaningfully less special, though still very good. Super-fast steering rack, though felt kind of like Sport+ throttle in that it’s more an aggressive calibration than actual improvement in performance/agility at the chassis-level. Doesn’t quite corner as flat as the newer G8x. Enjoyed the big aluminum shift paddles; reminded me of some of my favorite mid-engine V8 Ferraris.
If Alfa would’ve stepped up with a much more generous warranty and maintenance plan, they would’ve made a bigger splash. It is way, way better than any F8x. Extremely impressive for a 2016 release. |

I actually just picked up a 22 Quad in Vulcano Black. Ridiculous car and truly one of a kind. As others have said, this is the type of car that only comes around so often.

There's really no excuse nowadays for producing vehicles that are as poor in reliability as has been reported. The Giulia Quadrifoglio should be an M3 killer if it could just stay on the road. It's sad because with BMW making cars of questionable design & road isolation character these days, Alfa's can't take advantage. |

I’ve had 5 BMWs and all of them had awful reliability. I’m just saying those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones…does the Alfa have an Achilles heel like rod bearings that will grenade the engine? Not that I’m aware of.

I think you missed one huge achilles heel for the Alfas, the electronics. What kind of issues did you have? What kind of owner are you? Do you send your oil out every time to blackstone?

Even without trying to paint with too broad of a brushstroke regarding reliability.. I know the QV is more desirable, to me, to have as a daily driver than any BMW in a similar price range. Whatever sedan I buy at ~70k is going to have a warranty so in my case it comes down to which I'd rather be driving when I'm away from my sports cars.

As someone with extensive seat time in the G8x (MT and xdrive) as well as the Quad (2019) I can tell you for certain that the Quad is a more enjoyable car to drive. Looks aside (and that's hard to do with the G8x), the Giulia is just so much more composed and planted. The steering rack is also lightning quick, something I've only ever experienced in borderline supercar territory.
Reliability will always be a concern, but it has been tempered a bit with the recent model years being much more solid. Don't get me wrong, the G8x is a fine machine, but the Alfa is just better. |

I have both and the QV chassis is a masterpiece. The G80 M3 isn't that far behind but is not nearly as settled, composed and compliant. The powertrain in the G80 M3 is absolutely better. However I feel the QV has been held back like no other car I've owned so with a proper tune maybe it would be an equal.
The trouble is the QV for me has been a disaster. And I don't think I'm alone. I spend some time on Mannheim auctions and the amount of QV's that are offered as buy-backs aka lemoned cars is staggering. I think much of this can be attributed to a poorly trained and supported dealer network. But this is a critical part of the ownership experience that clearly was intentionally ignored. In contrast the dozen BMW's I've owned have been a breeze. With a sample size this large and being an early adopter of high performance cars there's going to be issues. But all have been promptly handled and resolved in a completely acceptable manner. Issues with the QV were a battle that in the end I gave up on. It's just not that important to me to invest this much time. In the end for me it doesn't matter how good a product is if the pain of ownership kills the fun. When this happens its dead to me and my limited sphere of influence.
