i wrapped my aluminum... no biggie. if you don't like it you can always pull it off, sand it down and paint it silver again.

i just meant if you DON'T like the fabric... which I'm sure you will. I get compliments from everyone on it wherever i go... the car wash, my SA at the dealership, burger king, even the pharmacist at walgreens was like 'whoa, that looks sick' (he told me he had an e46 M3... of course he does). You'll like it...

1 yards if you don't make any major mistake....I would get 2 just in case, if at the end you got some extra fabric, either sell it locally or look around to find things that you can wrap with.....seen people wrap their laptop, their arim rest, and even a jacket....

Thanks for the DIY on this. I was going to spend 700 bucks on a CF trim kit but after seeing this it is a no-brainer to do this instead. I ordered 4 yards before I read that I only need 2 but that will be ok, I will keep some extra just in case. I live in AZ so it will be interesting to see how it holds up to the heat out here. I will report my experiences.

After reading the 3M adhesive catalog I decided to go with super 77 initially and make sure I like the way the car looks. The products that have higher temp ranges are pretty much going to permanently bond the plastic and fabric so if you use one of them you better be sure this is what you want. I have the new Crystalline tint on all windows including the windshield so my car temps are greatly reduced but I will likely exceed the 120 degrees on occasion so we shall see. Worst case scenario is that I will have to do the project twice. I have plenty os fabric and the techniques are similar to covering a model airplane which I have done for two decades so that will be fine.
I will do an update as I gain more experience with this project in this climate. Can't wait for the fabric to arrive so I can get to it. |
