I got the ETK from the link that was posted earlier also, and it works fine. Make sure you select the Europe Region, so that you have all the vehicle models and as mentioned before the password for ETK is berlin56. Both the TIS and ETK I've installed using the standalone hard drive install, so I don't have to be putting in discs to read the info. I think my ETK is 08/2007. I think there is a newer version 08/2008 out there, but I can't seem to find any torrents on it.

Concerning Rapidshare, just search www.rapidlibrary.com for "BMW TIS" There are 14 RAR files that you have to download and once you unpack them the ISO ends up being 1.6GB. I downloaded the WDS from rapidshare also, but the RAR files seemed to be password protected and I can't find the password, doh! The links posted earlier concerning the WDS and KDS seem to be downloading well for me so far. Will take another 24hrs though because there are very few seeds.

But are the ETK and TIS two different programs?

The screenshots posted on this thread clearly show a TIS program. I'm only seeing an ETK startup screen and then it asks to connect to a remote server and stalls there.

I'm using an ISO program, so it emulates a DVD drive and I can run the programs directly from the subdirectory where they are installed.

But for the life of me, I cannot see a TIS program.

Is it a separate download from the ETK?

But to answer your question they are different downloads. I haven't tried using a virtual drive to play the ISO. I would think it would be ok, and should work fine. You may of installed only the client of the ETK. You need to install the server-client on your machine to get it to work correctly otherwise it will ask for a server name. The same applies to the TIS.

IMHO the ETK is sort of worthless if you have access to www.realoem.com.

I was able to download all 14 rar files from rapidlibrary.com. I extracted the iso from all the .rar files and was able to install the standalone version of the software. No password that you have mentioned.

I checked the version and got this:

You have loaded the DVD 12/2007 version.

The TIS version 3.4.2 of 18. Feb 2005 is currently running on your computer.

So this is the latest version? I tried entering the VIN number and obviously got an "Invalid VIN" as the response.

Probably not but I didn't have to pay some shady eBay seller 15 or so dollars for a copy of a pirated software!

So far TIS 12/2007 is the latest version. One way to get it is from www.rapidlibrary.com by searching "BMW TIS." It is a pain in the butt to download all of the 14 file parts because of waiting and download limit through rapidshare. If someone knows how to setup a torrent (I have no idea how to), I'd be willing to seed it for a short period of time.

12/2007 is the latest version that I've been able to find. I have not run across a 03/2008 version yet.

Instead of waiting on the download limit, just pay $6 US for a 3day pass and you can download all 14 rar files within 30minutes.

The problem only occurs on ETK using Java of course. I don't know the exact date this was introduced by BMW but 01/2005 does not use Java but 06/2005 does. That's why you don't get any Java related errors Racing.Ray since your 2004 version doesn't use it.

I have also noticed the Java connection problem seems to have been introduced between 06/2005 and 06/2006 since all version from 06/2006 always had the Java connection problem but with 06/2005 I had no problems at all.

I also started to noticed different behaviour depending on which operating system. The 08/2006 worked just fine on XP but suffered from the Java connection problem on Vista. It was obvious there where some problems combining how ETK install itself, Java and the operating system. All versions of ETK seems to use the JRE_1.4.2_01 version. This is known to not work very well with Vista. I also know that Vista is much more restrictive with higher security (causing some Java problems). When you install it as standalone the ETK program still wants to connect to a server but it connects to your own machine (localhost) instead of a real server (your server should be up & running on your computer). So clearly something was wrong with this connection.



Anyway my solution (tried it recently on 08/2007 version) to the Java connection problems seen on my Vista machine was as follows

[Step 1]
Open the file "javaclient.properties" in Notepad (the file is located at "C:\BMWgroup\ETKLokal\javaclient\classes").

[Step 2]
Change
server.URL = http://localhost/javaserver/ClientService
to
server.URL = http://localhost:2149/javaserver/ClientService

[Step 3]
Change
tomcat.port
to
tomcat.port = 2149

I just went through this. I installed all 14. I did it for free so it took me about 17 minutes to download the 13 files and 6 minutes for the 14th file...plus the 15 minute wait time in between each download. It took me a total of 4 days to download everything.

I needed to burn it on a DVD, and I just finished installing it on my laptop.

So, am I happy? I'm fricken ecstatic!! It works perfect!!
Forget about all of the errors when you try to open them... It works great when you have all of them, but you need all 14 for them to work.
Even when you have all 14, it will give you 14 errors when it opens all of them, btu the end result is the program.
