Shiv, do you think the lean tune from the factory has anything to do with the piezo direct injection providing better cooling and knock protection than the regular port injected veriety?

if so, maybe you can get away with a slightly leaner tune yourself, although it's a risk.

I forgot the name of the dyno shop, but I think it was one of your first dyno tunes in Houston and the place had horrible ventilation. I came along with Resonance in the white EVO and just helped out where I could... so I worked the dyno at night for about 4 hours as things were moving a little slow. If I recall correctly... you worked from 10 am all the way till about 2 am... surprised you didn't die from Carbon Monoxide poisoning

I heard about the gains that were possible with Meth from Cajun Power, so I just had to ask... but can't hide that one Has the 335 thrown a check engine light yet or has it remained quiet? I know in the EVO's they had tendency to throw a code occasionally but that was usually with alot of mods or an old xede firmware. Thx.

Or better yet: one for better fuel economy than stock, and one for when you want to drive like you stole it!

Great work Shiv. It looks like you are getting closer to the production phase. A couple of questions if I may:

1. Is it safe to assume that the price point for the product will be similar to your other xedes?

2. Do you have any plans for track time in your car? Videos of you having fun on the street will be very cool but I have always felt there is no better measure of power than a quarter mile trap speed. I am not so interested in ET since as your team already stated, hooking up with so much power and no LSD is tough, but a high trap would put some real meaningful objective data to go along with those beautiful Dyno graphs.

Thanks, Kevin

After a long day at work or school... few miles until you get home and there are no cars on the road.
Switch the map on those bad boys. BAM, 60 more whp, 70 more wtq.

I just can't believe the potential this car is showing. With just tuned map/exhaust on pump gas....
I can hear a lot of MB/Lexus/Infiniti owners crying already.

I would like to know this also unless it already has been covered. What is the price figure?

Are these going to be plug & play?
or
Is dyno tuning time going to be required?

With just the Xede (no exhaust), I suspect we could pick up 40whp and 40lbft of torque on 91oct. Still good but being able to hear the exhaust and pick up another chunk of power is a hard thing to resist.

Cheers,
shiv
How loud will the exaust be in the cockpit? I would not mind if it was just a bit louder, however if it was like my buddies car (yelling at one another over the exaust sound) I'd just go with the Xede.

The Xede is nearly plug and play. You will have to load a base map for your specific cars setup into the Xede and then after that you are good to go.

The base maps are a fairly conservative tune in order to fit manufacturing variances between cars.... but given a stock setup, most likely there would be a base map for 91, 93 and 106 octane.

If you want to get the most out of the xede and your vehicle in particular... a dyno day is alway recommended. I can't give specifics on the 335 but I would not be surprised if a dyno tuned car would generate 15 whp more than a base map.

Shiv please correct me if I am wrong on this.

Shiv,

Is the car using a diaphragm DV? If so any thoughts in replacing stock to a spring type DV? BTW, great work!!

Any thoughts on clutch wear with the new tune having more horsepower?

You know BMW looks at these forums, and you can pretty much bet they have seen this thread. I wonder what they are thinking?

My first thought is,,,, Looks like this Shiv guy just shot us in the foot with our soon to be released M3 V-8. Basically matching the hp numbers with a simple piggy back.

Or, Hons... "we need to hire this guy to work for us"!

LOL

Looking forward to some tire smoking vids!

"Simple piggy back?" I'd agrue that the Xede has seen more development time than any other engine control system (standalone or piggyback) that I've used. The software, for instance, had be flexible enough to provide us with the tools necessary to solving all problems that OE mapping throws in our way. It gives us the ability to actually "nest" maps within other maps which, in turns, opened up a whole new world of conditional tuning that wasn't possible less than a year ago.

As for BMW calibration engineers, they could certainly have done what I did, in a number of different ways. However, they are shackled by a number of emissions constraints that done apply to folks like me But thanks for the kind words!

Cheers,
Shiv

Seriously, why not the actual //M button from the E60 M5? It might not be the cheapest solution but it would definitely look "OEM"

(*edit* didn't realize the M button is actually on the steering wheel on the M5...might not look at home on the dash...but the "Power" button might!)
