Yes, you certainly sound like you shouldn't be modding. It's not for everyone, and if you don't have the "gotta pay to play" attitude, you should stay out or you'll have a heart attack one of these days!

i lke to mod my cars as you do. this thread is not about scaring someone, it's about keeping everybody informed. BTW, your BMW dealership is not able to update your OEM ECU flash ( progman / ista ) without being online.

Hi,

OP -- is there any data to back this up or not?

sorry, I dont understand that statement..
are you saying there is no remote access to the car via the TeleService system -- therefore no (unrequested)changes to the system can be made?

Or are you saying the dealer has to be online to update the software if the car is in the shop? e.g. physically connected to the car --

cheers

if the car is in the shop, and requires programming, and the ISIS server is down, and the dealer is not "online" with BMW- programming can still take place, the system will is designed with a fall-back procedure.

every ISTA/P version is released in two ways -- one via online comm with BMW , based on build and release schedules, and there is a hard copy disc version that is sent for back up.. Say a shop is large, or dispersed and network connectivity is not available to all tech stations, worst case scenario -- the network goes down -- the current hard copy (ISTA/P) is loaded on diag device and programming is accomplished, the session is saved and when the device is hooked to the network -- the data is then transferred to the ISIS server.
