I ran the R26 for a while and did a few circuits including Spa and the Ring.
If you fit semis on an R26, the only real difference is the 100kg.
We did a fairly long analysis once at an airfield, the results were surprising.
Its a car I miss though and I would like an R26 stripped for track again...

The Ford was also on my list, being in the same boat as you.
But the LSD and cheap purchase cost swayed me to the Renault.
Try the R26, its 95% of the .R but 2/3 the cost and has all the toys (and seats!)

Thanks matey - but to be honest if i was going to go down the Renault route it would only be the R26R

Had a great day yesterday at the Ford Fair at Silverstone. Really fun drive up in a convoy of about 20 MK2 Focus RS's!! If im honest it was exactly what i was expecting, huge Chav Fest as Carlos would say, but it didnt deter me from my current ownership - and what was VERY apparent was the "them and us" feeling you get between the old school RS Turbo and Cossie brigade and the new MK2 RS clan - get the feeling they think we are snobs and not worthy of the badge. I even heard a few beer bellied tattoo shaven headed numptys shout "nice Volvo!!" at a few MK2 Rs's as they drove around the show!! Cant say i care a jot but quite funny to witness. Best bit of the day for me was driving on the new Silverstone circuit - such an awesome track and that new section was great fun - RS went well round the track and we even gave a Fezza 430 a good run for its money!!!! Roll on Nurburgring!!!

Steve, nice little review. Seems not much has changed since I used to go.

Definately was a divide back when I was a Ford fan. Bet the track was great to drive.

Any track pics?!

Thanks for heads up Dave - but tbh i think thats far too much money and i genuinely dont see HOW its ever going to put that sort of power down. Mine is stock bar the Milltek and it torque steers already under heavy load. I simply dont see the point. I honestly think the RS is fast enough for what it is. It does torque steer a little despite the Revo-knuckle but not enough to effect your enjoyment and ive already adapted my driving to compensate etc. But another 100bhp??? Just dont know how it would cope. I am very tempted with either the Mountune route or one of the other many packages offered by the likes of Graham Goode etc - but i doubt i would go more than 50bhp over stock. Im already considering a high quality aftermarket intercooler and then race cats. Then i will look into the Bluefin option and again GGR's forced air induction kit. But im not wanting to spend a small fortune on it as i dont think its worth it. Im hoping to get a trip to the Ring in it before the summers over and then take stock of the situation from there. Ive no doubt i will return from the Ring wanting full coilovers and PS2's again!!!

I would go with the Mountune myself. Seems to focus on driveability and delivers the power very smoothly, rather than chase big numbers for pub bragging. That it is also 100% warranty friendly makes it appeal even more.

Yeh, i hear you Dave - the only thing im still not 100% happy about is the fact that if you do ANY other mods, regardless how small or trivial in relation to performance, then it will STILL invalidate the Mountune/Ford warranty. Ive already added a Milltek cat back to my RS and this would HAVE to be removed and replaced with the new TUV approved Milltek that Mountune announced they can supply at the Ford Fair on Sunday. Thats not a huge issue as i could probably sell it and recoup some of the money back on the exhaust. BUT as an example id like to add ideally a FULL exhaust system with race cats but Mountune have no plans to supply any more than a cat back. Im also not sure how the Ford warranty would sit with mods like coilovers etc. All a bit too grey for me. Also, my mate down the road from me has a Frozen White RS and he had had the Mountune conversion done - we had a little play going up to FF on Sunday and i was stuck to him like glue - i even think he was quite disappointed by the results. So i still have some thinking to do!!

Steve,

Nice to see another Ford Focus RS on E90post.
My previous car was an E90 320D, but I did the swap to a Focus RS.

Mine is Ultimate Green and we're also busy modding
Mods I allready have done are :
- H&R springs
- H&R spacers 15mm @ rear
- Pipercross air filters
- Silicone boost hoses
- 3" Mongoose downpipe
- Pro-alloy intercooler

Now I've ordered the rest of the Mongoose exhaust with a decat.
After that the car will get a remap and should be around 360-370 bhp

Here in Belgium there's a tuner (Shiftech) who has allready mapped an RS above the 400 bhp.
Off course they fitted bigger injectors and a hybrid turbo.

Here are some pics of mine
