some of your guys really got talent, it took me 15 mins to get both of the grilles out, and the process of it was frustrating as hell.

Thanks for the instructions Kevin. Super easy job to do. Did mine in 5 minutes.
I found that if you start with the bottom clips, then the side one and then finish with the top ones then it's really easy. Looks great too. ![]()

Indeed, start with the bottom, and I think you can even get away with not removing the top screws... what I did was just pass my hand through the grill and pull at the bottom tabs, then repeated the same the whole way around...

carbon fiber grills
I put on some carbon fiber grills today. I put carbon fiber spoiler on last week, Hamann type. Looks great, I will post pictures as soon as I can. You guys may want to look at this set up. The way to go is just to remove the four screws holding the bumper in place, just like tutorial. Very easy, ten minutes.

Hey thanks for the DIY guide. You dont understand how many HOURS I spent looking at my car trying to figure out how to take it apart. Much different coming from a Mercedes. Anywyas, if any of you guys want blackout grills carbon fiber grills and anything else carbon fiber here is the place to buy it from:

I just did mine and don't think it was an easy job. I almost broke it!
Those of you who haven't succeeded, you guys must be more aggressive to pull/push the clips. While doing so, don't forget your other hand should pull the whole grill strongly. BTW, I used a screwdriver to push clips. |

Took me no more than 5 minutes - thanks to all the great advice here. I started with the clip that is adjacent to the headlights, then worked the two on the bottom out. After that, with the 4 bumper screws removed the top 2 clips were a cinch to get out. Popped in the new ones and re-inserted the 4 screws and all done. It's too dark to get a good picture but I will try on the weekend in better light and post.
I was really surprised to see that the clips on grilles didn't clip into anything. I was expecting a plastic bracket or something to have to push the clips into. They simply clip over the edge of the plastic that warps around the grilles. Last edited by gubby; 04-28-2010 at 10:10 PM.. |

I want to thank the OP for the detailed DIY explanation. I was able to do it and the clip closest to the headlight is the hardest due to the narrow gap the clip has to go through. Definitely looks better than the OEM grills, especially on the E92 MSport Pkg.

Hands hurt
Freaking hands hurt pressing down on those release tabs, and just fyi if your totally clueless like me the release tabs are on the main black connectors not the silver connectors, for someone who knows nothing you could save time like i didn't.

need a little help
First, thanks for putting together this great tutorial. Second, I just tried to follow the steps and got hung up with the force required to depress the clips to remove the grill. Man! I felt like I was going to crack it, and it still wouldn't budge! What could I be doing wrong? Any advice?

Great DIY
This DIY was perfect for me. I had success pushing out the bottom fasteners first, then the side next to the headlights, then the top. You have to give it some force, but overall an easy mod. Here's a shot of my car afterwards..

Wanted to clarify the necessary hardware for this DIY for LCI E92. The four screws are removed using a T30 Torx, not a 5/32 hex. Just installed the gloss black grills, will post pics when I get around to it. It looks sick!

Quite a simple mod, 15 minutes max. The top hooks actually caused me the most trouble- Plus making sure I screwed the front back up even on both sides with the hood.
Looks good against platinum bronze too/ Cheers for the write-up |
