What BMW mechanics outside of the dealership would you recommend in the KW region? Furtmair? German Autotech?

You guys need to help de-bunk the myth about RWD in the winter!! With winter tires, as all drivers should use in the cold weather regardless of their drivetrain, RWD is just as good, and even more fun when you have a nice icy parking lot to yourself RWD: Slightly better fuel economy, less moving parts, less overall short and long term cost. I've never missed a day because of snow in 4 years of RWD. I'd also like to point out that BMW's DSC and DTC systems are fantastic. I've driven/owned RWD cars from the competitors and their systems do not react as quickly or accurately as BMWs. The BMW DSC/DTC is predictable and non-intrusive and unlike others out there I don't ever feel the urge or need to disable the system (unless I'm on a closed circuit).
Show that to the next person you talk to who can't decide. Long live MT-RWD!

Now if you want to take your BMW offroading...well...go ahead, maybe AWD is for youa
Where I live AWD is not a myth vs RWD. I live in the country and have a 600+ ft driveway which goes up a hill. I have lived in TO and no offense but it is like saying winters are not that bad from your beach house in Malibu. In this past Winter, there were days on end in which your RWD BMW would have been a driveway ornament. Trust me, no amount of technical wizardry can make up for the fact that only 1 set of contact patches can provide forward motion. Keep in mind as well that in deep snow the front tires form a ramp of snow in front of them that will all but kill any traction the rears may get.

Last year there were days my Jeep GC with QDII and Blizzaks were struggling bad. My AWD Volvo with Blizzaks had a couple of times where it took me many attempts to get up the driveway. One particular time I think the brake based traction control was getting close to thermal operational limits.

I completely understand your point of view from where you are at, but I think you need to consider other locations and scenarios for your argument. I also live outside of Ottawa for many years and without AWD on the street I lived on, you would have to stay home.

Place your RWD BMW in place of my AWD BMW in these pictures, and I think you will get the point.

Cheers,

I recently bought a 2011 335. How do I tell if I have the combox as part of my loaded car?

Thanks in advance & kudos to you for taking the time to answer questions.
Cheers

A question regarding tires and wheels setup (you can check with you tech):
Do you recommend staggered wheels/tires setup on an xi all-wheels drive E90-s?
Listen, this subject has been a debate with mixed opinions!
At the same time, some will claim that BMW offers a staggered setup on some sport packages versus square. Others say that you'll blow your transfer cast on your AWD with a staggered setup if you exceed 1% difference of wheels rolling diameters!!!

What do you think?

Cheers,
Are you using Runflat Winters, or regular rubber winters? That could account for the difference we're experiencing. Seriously, in the last 3 years of RWD winter driving, I have not missed a day of school, work, birthdays, etc. I haven't spun out, lost control, been stuck (I was stuck maybe once or twice on a really crappy day but nothing I couldn't get out of on my own)... There have been some days I probably should have stayed home but I hate being held back by anything and take on the challenge. Besides, the highway is great when no one else is on it (sure, you have to draw your own lanes and hope anyone else out there will follow them too...)

But maybe it's because I don't use runflats

Thank-you for taking our questions and providing answers to the best of your ability.

I have a couple of questions about M3's.

(1) When I look at the residual value on a 3-year M3 lease, it's quite low, yet 3 year old M3's seem much more expensive on the used car market...

What accounts for this difference? It seems like there's not a lot of inventory of M3's here... why would their residual value be as low...? I was surprised at how much the residual value approached that of my 335i coupe...

(2) Are the number of allocations of M3's limited in Canada? How many allocations of M3 (coupes) would BMW Waterloo/ Parkview/ Toronto get in a year...?

As you might guess, my husband and I are considering an M3. Thanks.

p.s. One last question, out of curiosity. When I went to purchase my car, I noticed there were a lot of 328i coupes with x-drive, but a lot more 335i coupes with RWD. Do 335i drivers more often go for RWD?
