No. This mod will turn off the DRL permanently...until you go back to them to have it re-enabled...or if for some reason the dealer has to replace the lamp control module or the ignition switch which resets the DRL setting. Simply unplugging the battery or changing key fobs will NOT reset this setting back to factory.

Canadian spec cars have the DRL on/off option on iDrive or on the control stalk hidden. In US-Spec cars this DRL on/off option is visible. This shop merely toggles DRL off through their software. It does not make the DRL on/off option visible through iDrive or your control stalk on a Canadian spec car.

This is not some "hax0r" software...they are not going to hack into your car and break it. They have the full blown BMW diagnostic computer software that plugs into your car. They are not hacking anything...simply disabling a feature for you.

If your local dealer is willing to reflash your entire car as a US Spec car for free...I say go for it. I assume this means you will also get the latest version of Progman...which should be great too.

Otherwise...what this shop offers is pretty reasonable.

As for the dealer doing the reprogram; I've asked. Basically your dealership has to have the US-Spec software loaded into their computers. Now, maybe Calgary is different, but nobody in Vancouver has it. Nor are they keen on bucking up the $$$ to get it and then flash one car. I have a fantastic relationship with my service dept/advisor, and he said if they could do it easily, he'd do it for free. I still have DRL's. That's the short answer.

Dogg- when the hell are we gonna have a night time meet? I'm working essentially two jobs right now; so I don't have the capacity to check the boards as often as I'd like, but I'd be keen on a Saturday night cruise.

Well...can't say that. It probably cost them mucho $$$ when they first bought the US-spec software from BMW. They have to recoup their costs of buying that software...

Of course, if you think of it as them just plugging in a cord and flashing your car with software...yes it will seem overpriced. But whatchya gonna do?

Having said that...paying $300+ seems a little steep though...just to be able to disable/enable your DRLs through your control stalk/iDrive.

the orange parking lights are actually reflectors. physically pieces of colored plastic. cannot be removed by German flash. euro/asia spec vehicles all have clear reflectors. this is to do with the DOT (department of transportation in both US and Canada). mexico has clears too i believe. as for the top speed govenor, its set at like 152mph for sport package and 130mph for basic. thats around 240kmph. no reason you need to go faster than double the speed limit of the highway

I disabled mines from the footwell module. I took some nice yellow LED's turn lights and put them behind the bumper's mesh and connect them in paralel with the side markers that are also LED's. Costed me $45. The only issue is the people expect to see them in the headlight and when I do get the ocasional finger because they get fuistrated that I'm not signaling.

at canada...we must have DRL on,this is by law.police have right to give u ticket with no DRL.of course that not include the old car"production b4 around 1990's car"
so we don't have the switch from idrive.i also ask the local dealer.they said they "actually" can do it.but officially they "can't" do it since bmw canada will have record if did the drl off.
