When you drive the cars back to back, you will notice the difference. When I first got my 335i, I loved driving it because of the novelty. But now after having it for 5months, I have more fun driving the M3. I know the 335i runs virtually neck and neck with the M3, and if I only had the 335i, I would have fun looking for M3s to surprise. The 335i is so much easier to drive fast with all that torque. But the M3 is more involving, and sharper edged. They both have their advantages. But try driving the M3 at 150mph, and then do it in the 335i, you will know exactly what I mean, the M3 is noticeably more composed at higher speeds. For not having any turbos, the little M3 3.2L inline 6 is pretty impressive.

I loved my M3, the 335 needs some work to catch up to it, ie suspension and brakes. The M3 was such a high reving motor when the 335 loses its HP curve arround 6.1k or something totally random arround that area. M3 is deffinatly sportier, its a hard change.
And the M3 at 175 feels like the 335 at 150 |

Brakes?
FYI the 335i has better stopping power than the out going m3. Bigger calipers also. And the 335i suspension is a lot more refined than the m3's. Yes the m3's suspension is better for the twisties. But as for cruising when your going 155 mph in a m3 you know your going 155. Anyone that has owned a m3 and 335i can tell you the 335i's suspension is a lot softer. In my girlfriends old m3 You can feel every fucking bump you went over.

FYI.... braking is not better....but a moot point, as 3 feet is not much....as for perceived speeds vs. reality...the m3 is more stable, imo...(i have spent considerable time on the highway in a 335i....4 hour road trip).... |

m3 is stable yes in corners, but as for comfort the 335i has much more softer suspension, and at higher speeds you do not feel it as you do in a M3 since the suspension is a lot stiffer. I stated this because he said " And the M3 at 175 feels like the 335 at 150 " Which is deffinatly not the case. My point was to the guy that I quoted. So lets not get this into another "OMG my m3 owns your 335i"

ss headers are on the car. But like I said earlier we did not make a 40mph rolling run. We started at 60 mph. I was in auto mode not s6. Each time I honked and he got the jump because I hade let the car down shift then go.
Bad news though.... I have a large sharp wooden object sticking out of my rear pass side tire. It can't be patched , it has to be replaced. I'm going to order tires tomorrow unless I can find some locally. Problem is I work Sat. and won't be able to make any runs on Sunday unless I get the tire fixed.

I don't see how one can be biased if one owns both cars. The M3 is DEFINITELY more stable at speed. I confirmed that again today. Got my 335 up to speed governor around 155mph, then I had to slow down & turn to the left. The back felt a bit uneasy with the manouvre. The M3 takes this in its stride & is rock solid at any speed.
But the the 335 does have better brakes. There's no doubt about that. |

I'm going to have to sell my soul and agree. After driving an E46 M3 and an AP1 S2000 this past weekend, getting back in my 335i was a bit of a boring matter. I'm looking forward to getting some mods within the next couple of months and hopefully that will cure some of the BR i may be having. Regardless, make no bones about it, as much as I love the N54, it is not a substitute for a true sports car.

The 335i is the best car overall I have ever owned. Having said that my 02 m3 vert was still alot more fun to drive. Hopefully my procede comes soon and changes that =)

The Procede will make you go With four people in the car, a trunk full of luggage and a full gas tank I punched it at 75MPH and it is really impressive. The ladies in the back are and my buddy next to me is mommy. Before we know it we're going 110mph, and I'm on the brakes. It may not be as knife edge sharp as an M3, but it has it where it counts for me. :rocks:

My two cents--Procede in a 335 is night and day. My wife even noticed the difference and said it was "dramatic." My wife. She drives an Acura bec. she's afraid of speed. I love the M3. Nice and stiff. 335i is not as stiff but smoother. So its a matter of personal preference. But, the torque in the 335i with Procede is unreal.

Ayyy another one of these M3 vs 335i thread...
Fact and matter is, M3 is 7 years old technology...and back then, it pretty much the quickest car within reasonable budget...today's standards, it is mediocre... Handling wise, don't even make ASSumptions unless you've owned an M3 before and have taken it to the track... Let's compare it this way, a 335i handling to an M3 handling is like comparing a stock 335i to a PROceded 335i in power....the change IS that drastic... Now let's upgrade the 335i with PSS9 and Sways and LSD...ur at best, a Turbo Tuner 335i now.. this comparison make any sense? Back to subject...an M3 will need a lot of mods to beat a PROceded 335.
