ide go ahead and do it just dont cut holes in your box and use the filter i used . cause if anything u can always remove the filter and slap in the flat drop in and leave the intake mount flanges in place it wont mess with anything.

Dinan-like Ram Air for 32 dollars

DJ Apex, your intake mod project inspired me to proove that the Dinan brand is ridiculously over priced. Went to Auto Zone and bought a Spectre flexible memory hose, used a Dremel to drill a hole in the air box and routed the hose to end up right next to the driver side brake cooling duct. Haven't driven the car with the mod yet but will update. Still trying to figure out how to cover up the inlet with a custom or OEM grille. See pictures and let me know what you think guys.

Ram air test drive

Test drove the car this morning and was pretty amazed. Throttle response is quicker on both default and sport modes. The car feels lighter and easier to accelerate (no pedal lag). Rev increase is smoother and quicker. You can feel the umph from around 2000 rpm and up (more power on low, mid and high ranges). No big difference on engine noise but it definitely sounds stronger and with a deeper tone. I didn't change the filter, i've been using the K&N stock replacement all along. Im very happy about this mod. Dinan claims a 7 HP gain so I guess this mod costs around $4.57 per HP. Not bad.

Great job for doing this, just be careful in the elements I heard that the NE now has a tendency to flood

Yeah I've been thinking about that, I do have space to play with the inlet position. Maybe I could push it back a bit and point it downwards partially.

I test drove the car again since this morning's traffic was pretty bad. This time I was able to floor it a couple of times and man!! That car comes alive after 5k rpm, sounds like a beast and runs like a maniac! So glad I did this.

Awesome stuff.

Did you keep Charcoal filter?

Can you post part numbers of the kit? I dont have AutoZone here so will need to improvise.

For some duct ideas look up: sink drain mod for e36 e46 or e39
use the plastic inlet for a speaker tube. Will look sharp.

I removed the charcoal filter some time ago. Here is the link for the 3" duct. Thats the only part I've used so far. Still trying to figure out how to cover the inlets (brake and air intake) with a desent grille. The stock grille is partially closed were the air duct is placed.

Absolutely. I don't have the cone filter though. Not sure if it will make a big difference.

Thanks! I searched for a while but never found them, I guess I had to look for 335 bumper grids instead of 328. Anyways, I had laready ordered a set of gloss black powder coated mesh grille sheets to fit on the bumper. I'll update once I get them installed.
