A median on that highway would've saved his life.

RIP.

No, differences of opinion are called for. Name-calling is for those who can not have a mature debate. Name-calling is immature.

Total destruction, wow.

I drive farely quick in the snow w my z71 but you have to pay attention closely. This is similar to getting out of the groove in a high HP drag car. He got out if the groove and paid dearly.

Where was this?

what part of the video made you think it was a "little funny''? just curious

The car flying totally apart like that just seems a little...weird. It kind of goes against all of the other accidents I've seen.

I mean it was a fairly new SUV. The truck, in snow, was going maybe 40 - 50 mph? The car maybe 20 - 30 mph?

I've seen some pretty horrific accidents in my time, and also some post-accident wreckage, but nothing like that.

Unless I am mistaken, or it was the absolute 1% chance of the truck hitting the SUV in exactly the right spot at the right moment, how did it end up like that?

I've seen direct head on collisions before with better results.

i'm guessing much higher speeds than your thinking.

look at the tractor trailer at impact, it gets rocked pretty damned hard.

Agreed.

Anyone know where this happened? Looks like many of the highways up here, but I couldn't see any plates or road signs. Typical speeds would be 100-110 km/hr on clear, double highways like that. So thinking more 110 km/hr (68 mph) for the semi and maybe 80-90 km/hr (53ish mph) for the SUV as it got sideways.

Really? The legal weight for an eighteen wheeler is 80000 lbs. [40 tons] travelling at approx 60-70 miles an hour? Newtons second law F=m*a

Its actually very easy to solve for the sheer forces involved never mind the video evidence of it..so Im confused by your post

Correct, people who don't know don't thing its possible. I have video of a crash test conducted in Britain with a Ford Focus vs a solid wall at 120mph. The results were shocking. The echo after impact produced sonic booms for several seconds. And the focus was crushed to about 1/8 its original size, that included the trunk flattening up like a pancake from the deceleration alone. The whole whole car just literally flattened up and exploded outwards with the wheels and running gear getting shot outwards. The motor kinda just flattened and dissapeared too, then the whole mass of metal bounces back and up like a ball that hit a wall at an angle. they also recorded an immediate rise in temperature in the air near the scene. they need to show that to cocky teens.

Yup test dummy, ha ha what test dummy, you couldn't tell what was metal and what was not after impact. The simulation was head on collision between two small cars like a focus at about 60mp. No chance anyone survives it. You see that and it makes you think twice every time you want to put the foot down. I think we naturally underestimate the sheer destructive force of a collision at speed.

post that up, would be a good reference point since its actual measured data and not speculation.

That is horrible.

Tons of roads like that around Pittsburgh. There are 1-2 fatalities a year on rt 28. People drive 60-100mph head to head with no barrier. Fatalities usually at night in rain.

I was thinking the same thing. Anyway, if this is really what happened then I'm blasted by the pulverisation of this car. I guess you really have no chance against a semi.

I'm guessing that will buff right out. That's an easy fix if you have the tools.

Never understood what road designers were thinking having ~3000lb objects travelling in opposite direction at +100km/hr separated by nothing more then a painted line.

Divided highway, or nothing.
