That margin is actually fairly small and personally, I would prefer to forgoe it and keep that cash fluid in case of emergencies. Plus my car 'income' is a monthly allowance in leiu of a company car, so it barely touches my account before BMW snaffle it away. Although property is slightly different in that it appreciates rather than depreciates, I also see my mortgage as an alternative savings account. What savings I have can earn interest in the building society and that interest partially offsets the interest I pay on my mortgage. Again, my finances are fluid so I don't need to sell the house to get to my savings. The element of my monthly payment that reduces the principle of the loan is effectively increasing my equity in the property and so is just like a savings account. Mortgage debt is particularly cheap, so it would be the last thing I would consider paying off (if I could). |

I too am from your neck of the woods. When our daughter was born, we had the choice of Harlow (aka as Beirut) or Cambridge Hospitals. Not wishing to cast aspersions at our fellow Essex brothers, but it was a no-brainer really. North Essex has more in common with Cambridge/Hertfordshire than with the rest of the county
