Simota is essentialy the AFE Closed box with a larger hole in the front. Maybe acts like a better shielded Ingen. One can take a euro box and cut it up to open the area on the bottom of the air filter

I dont know why the dyno shows these gains though, could be the new filter vs old paper or even Scoops or Fresh oil change

Less ridiculous that Simota's claim of 21 hp, but still just absurd.

Crank or wheel, 21hp isn't happening from an intake.

STIG is right though, the Simota intake shouldnt be such a gainer because:
- that dyno is comparison versus a Eurobox & paper filter
- Its a Eurobox with open bottom
- It connects to OEM Hose to Throttle body

Leaving me to make the suggestion:
- Dyno gains as car warms up - we only see first Stock run vs one of the last Simota runs IF the car was modded on the dyno
- Oil change in between dyno days can have a 10hp effect
- Paper vs Aftermarket filter

I don't remember it being a modified stock box to be honest.

Yes it does, let me ask - does the simota have a bigger filter element/larger piping to the TB?

Filter is larger, BUT stll has to accomodate MAF placement AND piping is OEM

Would really like to be true to have such gains from intake, however I'm quite reluctant lol.

I mean I had a car where the intake tube would go from the throtle body to the back of the engine to connect to the air box that was sitting on top (I'm not freaking kidding you) of the exhaust manifold heat shield, and than there was an additional scoop from the that box going over the engine to make sure to suck all of the hot air over there haha.

Now on that car a CAI made a difference, butt still no 21hp lol!!!

I just report what I see, I can't say yea or nay. I did make the most power with an AFE intake box on my intake test, and it was essentially a Euro Box with holes in it - so who knows?

That would be pretty cool though, it would give me an additional reason to change my stock intake, besides the fact that it's a b!@#& to remove it every time I need to clean the air filter and with the scoops it sure gets dirty fast.

I have scoops and the Dinan ram-air intake, so my AFE air filter just loves to get down and dirty!

I didn't do a before and after dyno run so my answer is purely subjective and related to my butt dyno. After the install, it appeared as though the car pulled stronger in the upper RPM range in third and fourth gear. As for fifth and sixth gear, I haven't had the car in the upper RPM range in these gears. Of course, the cost of the system might be creating some bias in my butt dyno! But hey, at least I have a way cool Dinan badge riveted to my air box!
