Also, appreciate everyone's input. I sat there in the oil section for about 15 min, going back and forth between Castrol Edge and Mobil 1.

There as also another DYI, showing how to reset my "service dates". Saweeeet

I use BMW OEM oil (only because of price, $7.58 QT at my local BWM dealer). Walmart has mobil 1 for $8.98 QT.

I Also use OEM BWM oil filter because of price as well. My local dealer has it for $11.90 w/O-rings and autozone has it for only $1.50 less not a big difference

BMW OE. It's no more expensive than anything else and works fine.

I used to get the bmw catrol from the dealer with the cca discount, but have been using M1 0w40 for a while. It has very broad characteristics, disipates the heat well and flows quick at cold temps.

My car is weird, sometimes will use a half qt every 1000 miles, sometimes will go 2000 miles without using a drop.

If you mean the German Castrol 0W-30, it is available at Autozone or Pep Boys

I use whatever oil my dealer puts in the car and I keep two quarts of Mobil synthetic something (10W or 5W, I don't recall which) in the trunk in case the car tells me to add oil between changes and I happen to be driving when it does so. That's happened once, maybe twice (?), in nearly seven years.

My driving habits:
I definitely have fun when I can with the car's power. Not shy about flooring the gas when I'm on empty, open highway. I cruise on the interstates at about 80. The car hasn't left the Mid-Atlantic area of the US since 2010. My driving mainly is short, 5 mile or less round trips. On the weekends, I may make one or two 40 mile round trips into suburban DC locales. I drive to the mountains (300 miles) occasionally and to the beach (130 miles) occasionally.

All the best.
