Out of action with a wrenched back. The kicker is this week we have classic nice riding conditions. I'm missing it all. I may try a short walk to loosen up the back and then maybe a short, slow cruise on the FX3 to see how it goes.

Good long soak in a hot bath with some joint soothing liquid mixed in should do it good.

I took 3 days off to rest it. Today I took the FX3 for a slow, easy cruise and then ended up slow pedaling for a few miles alongside a friend who walks the same trail. So my overall average speed for the 15 mile run was just 8MPH. But I felt fine the whole ride and my back isn't any worse despite the exercise. I'll take the Domane out tomorrow for a little more intense ride, although it'll still be only 6/10ths or so.

Another back rehab ride on the FX3 today. Easy 16 miler. My back is still a bit stiff and sore, but it's coming around. Doesn't bother me to ride, so I'm thankful for that.

Before doing my 10 miler had to fix a rear puncture so removed wheel in seconds and using the puncture kit with supplied plastic tyre mini levers sealed the puncture with a patch and I was ready to go.

It's up with the lark with walking the dog up 'that' hill to tone up for a ride later. With that puncture I had thankfully before a ride I'm carrying my puncture kit and a mini air pump in case it happens when I'm miles away.

5 mile scouting ride last night. New house is in a more densely populated area, unlike the previous place which was on the edge of rural and nice country roads.
My goal is to build a couple of rides in the 10/15/20 mile ranges. |

No bike trails nearby?

That said, I'm retired and can plan the travel time into my rides. If I were still working and trying to cram in rides after work, I might not opt for the trail and just stick to the local backroads.

I usually do longer rides on the weekend, so time is more flexible. In Indiana we had a nice 7 mile route close to the house that was nice to do during the week. Oh well time to adapt.

Put together an 11 mile route tonight. It felt good to get the heart rate up a little. The route probably needs some tweaks, but it will work for now. Mostly bike trail, some low traffic/low speed residential streets, and some sidewalk along busy streets.
Fell off the bike at zero speed (duh!, my bad) and almost got t-boned by a high speed cyclist who fortunately saw me first. All good, I chalk it up to distraction from plotting the new route in unfamiliar territory. The sidewalk portion is annoying but that's what it is for now. |
