From a performance and functionality standpoint, it is always more beneficial to go with the smallest diameter wheel you can fit over your brakes. When comparing 18" and 19" wheels specifically, 18" wheels will be lighter in overall unsprung weight, which increases performance and agility. 18" wheels will also be less expensive, with cheaper tire options compared to 19"s. Lastly, 18" wheels will use taller sidewall tires, which provides additional ride comfort and compliance, as well as more rim protection for your wheels. Overall, 18" wheels tend to be the most popular for the non-M E9X chassis but some folks will opt for 19" wheels simply due to aesthetic preference. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out! -Geirsen

Just purchased a 6-piston wilwood front brake kit with 15" rotors. Do you guys happen to know if it will clear your 18" wheels (depending on offset of course)? Just curious if you guys did any testing with big brake setups.
Potentially debating on downgrading from 19" arc-8 to 18" VS-5RS in the future for better tire selection.

Would you happen to know if I can clear the rears on this set I’ve been eyeing: Front: 19x8.5 ET +32 Rear: 19x9.5 ET +25 The front seems just fine but I’m concerned the rears will rub unless I have camber plates + roll the fenders. Both of which I have no intention of doing. Let me know your thoughts! It is greatly appreciated. |

Here’s a few preliminary pics. I haven’t had a chance to take some really good whole car ones yet. Just a few quick pics between thunderstorms

Front: 18 x 9 et30 (plus I have a 5mm spacer behind my brake rotor so works like ET25)
Rear: 18 x 10 et25

Space Gray E90 335i on 17” APEX VS-5RS Forged Wheels
Alec’s Space Gray E90 335i on 17” APEX VS-5RS wheels Our Sprint Line forged wheels have already proven to be a huge hit within the BMW community in their 18” and 19” diameters. As we looked into expanding our VS-5RS forged line, the next logical range of fitments for these new wheels were 17s. With our huge focus on reduced weight and on-track performance, 17” wheels were a natural fit. Their inherently reduced weight and the access to affordable tire sizes made these new wheels a no-brainer fit for our classic BMW chassis that naturally suited smaller wheel diameters. To launch our range of 4 new 17” fitments, we kicked off a Group Buy a few weeks ago. While 18s and 19s are commonly run on the E9x non-m chassis, we wanted to take this opportunity to showcase these 17s on one of these cars. With aggressive drag fitments and taller sidewall tires being a popular option on modified E9X chassis, the VS-5RS are a natural fit. Mod List: Bilstein B14 coilovers M3 front control arms Blue Brembo GT6 355mm BBK Front Wagner style intercooler VRSF catted Downpipes MHD e30 OTS tune xHP stage 3 17x9.5 ET35 Square APEX Fitment notes: Fitment shown: Brushed clear VS-5RS 17x9.5 ET35 Front & Rear VS-5RS on 255/40-17 NT01 tires 5mm front spacers used for strut clearance 17x9.5 ET35 square isn’t often run on the E9X cars but it can work with additional negative camber dialed in up front for clearance. This wheel fitment is an easy fit in the rear of the car with wider tires and taller tire sidewall options including 275/40-17 and is the choice of drag racers looking to exploit a meatier tire option ¼ mile at a time. 17x9 ET30 can be run up front for an easy staggered setup or all-around for a perfect OEM+ square fitment. 17x9 ET30 Square Fitment shown: Anthracite VS-5RS 17x9 ET42 Front & Rear with 255/40-17 Toyo RR slick tires 12mm spacers used Front and Rear to give an effective offset of ET30 17x9 ET30 is our default square recommended fitment for this platform. Despite the smaller diameter wheels, the optimized barrel profile of both of these wheel fitments easily cleared the large aftermarket brembo brakes. Aggressive Toyo Slicks are showcased on this set of wheels as a carryover from our shoots on SPEC E46 3 series race cars. Learn More / Group Buy

The EC-7Rs are still great wheels, but we are very excited about these new VS-5RS. I honestly personally love the look of these 17s with the taller tire sidewalls on the E90 chassis. Its not everyone's cup of tea but its right up my alley.
