I have a wierd issue guys.
Only when playing the ipod, and this just started recently to my knowledge, when I switch songs there sounds like a squealing noise coming from the dash. It happens everytime I change the song. It almost sounds like a cd changer squealing but I took the disc out and it still does it only when playing the ipod. What is this???

I have the original iPhone, with 2.0 loaded on it.
I have no problems. It plays the music and accepts bluetooth phone calls without a problem. I use the Y cable.

Ok. Thanks. Good to know. Is that the new or old style Y-Cable. Might do a bit more troubleshooting then, and try and restore the phone and stuff.

The current cable will not work with the iPhone 3G (and maybe the old iPhone/Touches with 2.0 firmware?) because Apple has disabled Firewire charging. This is the same reason why a lot of hardware can no longer charge iPhone 3Gs.
Why the Y cable used Firewire charging instead of just USB? Your guess is as good as mine, but apparently it did. So now we're going to have to wait for BMW to redesign the cable to power the correct pins.

Ok. thanks. I managed to get it working. I restored the iphone 2g with 2.0 firmware from scratch, and now the music plays fine through the 6FL, so not sure what was going on before.
All good now. |

Come to think of it, they did revise the Y cables didn't they? Earlier this year? I got my car in May and I think that was after the revised cable? Maybe we can get some more testing on this to figure out where the difference is.

Just wanted to weigh in here. My '08 E92 335i was delivered in June, and the 6FL has never worked reliably. I've tried three different USB flash drives (1/2 gig, 2gb, and 8gb), all FAT formatted. The car initially recognizes the flash drive, and starts playing normally.
At some point, the car switches to FM radio and will not recognize the drive from that point on. It can't be selected manually, and no power is provided to the thumbdrive -- I know this because it has a light to indicate it's powered. I need to leave the car off for some period of time, after which I can try again and the drive will be recognized. Strangely, I've noticed that the last two times the car switched to FM radio, I was accelerating at about 7/10ths, at up to 5-6k RPM. Right after hitting nearly 6k rpm, the car switched to FM radio. I don't think this is a loose-connection/vibration issue, as I've gone over significant bumps and the car didn't switch to FM. I'm having the car looked at this week. |

How to pause/mute IPOD w/o i-drive
I have a new 08 335i MT w/o idrive or nav. I've searched and searched, but haven't found a forum listing that describes a way to mute or pause your IPOD. I would like to pause while I search for a new set of songs to play (thus turning off the system won't help).
Thanks |

Has anyone had the FM switching issue return (with a vengance) after having the software updated? Several months after having the update - which worked fine - my iPod now switches over to FM much more frequently than it ever did before. I also recently and mysteriously lost all my soft key presets.
Just wondering if others have experienced the same.

Today i hooked up my lacie 60 gig... Filled it up, each folder is a different album... It works for a song or 2, then freezes! Seems to be when switching songs, or at the end of a song. Quite annoying. The disk had about 200mb fred- i figured there would be no problems . Maybe about 600 directories in the root of the drive. Maybe i should re- structure it?
Also, when first starting the car, it takes about 2 minutes to start playing... Is this about normal? Other than that the sound quality is great, and the interface is much better than the ipod.. |
