1) flutter sound and closed at idle with a stiff spring or 2) no flutter sound and open at idle with a soft spring. Open at idle does not mean way too soft. Stock DVs are open at idle. Stock DVs open at 4.5psi pressure difference between charge pipe and intake manifold. Tial black is 6psi, Tial white is 8psi (nearly double stock stiffness) and Tial unpainted is 10psi. Tial is a BOV, at idle you have a massive hole in your intake that can suck in contaminants into the engine. Not acceptable at all.

Its good the surging issue is sorted now thanks to Vince aka Mr Wizard - now you can finalise the tuning and let her rip sock lol.
You should come to the drag strip with me one night and see what spcgry can run down the 1/4 |

I'm not sure which side of the fence I'm on when it comes to vent-to-atmosphere BOVs being open at idle. 99.9% of the time, they are always blowing out and never sucking in. Even at idle, the exhaust pulses still drive the turbos enough for the BOV to always be blowing out. There is a fraction of a second when suddenly hitting WOT from idle, it could suck in. If somebody does not want a vent-to-atmosphere BOV being open at idle and does not want any flutter sound with aftermarket turbos, there is only one option, a recirculating BOV with a soft spring. |
