I have a March 2007 build with original progman and up until recently had no problem, other than the RARE instance of switching to FM. I recently added some songs to my Nano, plugged it back into the car, and it's stuck on loading from the device. Used my Y-cable and ipod in my wifes E92 and it worked flawlessly. I wonder if I need a new Y-cable or a progman update or replace the MOST bus...

I posted this in another thread - but wanted to update here.... my problems were fixed after I stripped the id3v2 tags and also deleted everything but the .mp3s. No playlists, album art, or anything else left.
Plugged it in and it works great! |

Has anyone figured anything out with the annoyance of "Random" not staying checked? I THOUGHT my car was cured of this with the recent 32.1 update. The thing stayed on "Random" for WEEKS without me having to do anything. Then, magically, one day...poof, now it defaults to not random every time I start the car. I didn't do anything to the ipod or radio settings, etc. It just stopped staying on random!

Like Max3000 asked, has anyone fooled around with controlling the genius feature thru the idrive controls while hooked up to the 6fl option? New guy here and I'm going crazy till I pick up my first bmw in late March!

no genuis option in 6FL, i drive would need an update to support this feature. of course it is possible, if BMW did some programming.
right now shuffle is your only option for mixes in car

6FL Manual? Random Mode...
Is there a 6FL manual anywhere? I've been through most of these 50 plus pages and didn't notice any reference to it. Google wasn't helpful either.
I have a Mar 08 build 328 with 6FL option; no Nav. My iPod mostly works great; just leave it in the car. No chargin issues in almost a year and when I leave and come back I pick up where I left off. I do NOT seem to have fast scrolling, for whatever reason though, so it's a real pain to access particular songs on my 80GB classic, but I haven't spent too much time getting creative with playlists either. I like leaving my iPod in random mode, but it usually doesn't stay there. I usually have to re-select it next time I get in the car. One reason I would like to see a manual is that I sometimes seem to end up in a mode where if I turn off random when I am listening to a song from an artist that I like, it will keep playing songs from that artist. Almost as if the list that it is going through sequentially from that point on is sorted by artist. I would call that a neat feature. If I random onto one Radiohead song and want to keep listening to Radiohead for a while longer, I just turn off random; pretty neat. Usually, though, if I turn off random it will just go sequentially through song titles... not as interesting for me. I would love to know if there's something that I did to turn on sorting by artist. (I didn't push the button on the radio beneath artist and choose Artist from a list; If I re-select random when it's in this mode, I will just go to some random other artist. And I doubt that it is just randomly picking the same artist: lots of artists, bad odds for that.) Hope what I have written makes some kind of sense. |

I apologize for the noob question. I have performed a quick search and haven't been able to locate an answer to my question. I was hoping someone would be kind enough to share their procedure on unplugging an Ipod Touch. Do you just pull out the cable? Turn off the radio first then unplug the Ipod? Is there a proper procedure to disconnect the Ipod Touch?
Thanks |

Memory stick into USB?
Apologies if somebody has asked this before but I searched... USB + stick... and came up with nothing after a quick scan through 52 pages (and I'm off to bed) I didn't want to spend the next 4 hours trawling the thread
Has anybody put music onto a memory stick and plugged it in directly to the USB socket in the centre armrest? If so have you encountered any problems? Will it play the music OK? The stick cannot be longer than 70mm so any recommendations? Ideally I would prefer a larger memory on as smaller length stick as possible. |

My iPod is in perfect working order. I even formatted and reloaded all my music on it, replaced the battery just in case and it has the latest firmware. It did this once in a blue moon before the update so there must be something the update broke. I've had issues with the 6FL iPod option since day one. Also other electrical issues with the driver seat and sunroof. The electronics in these cars SUCK ASS!!! This may be my last bimmer and I've been driving bimmer's for the past 7 years. That's saying something... |

Working thumb drives
Hey all,
I have a 2008 328i with the 6fl option. I initially used a 4 gb Sandisk cruzer which worked fine. Just copied music to it and plugged it in. I just bought a PNY 16 gb and synched it using the Windows media player option. Took a bit but not sure how long as I was watching bball. But plugged into the 6fl option, took about 90 seconds to load the directory and I was good to go. So these can be added: SanDisk Cruzer 2gb PNY 16GB Hope this helps...... |

MP3 Question
I also have the USB connection in my BMW. You guys have said that with a regular Ipod if you connect through the USB port, you must also connect through the AUX input to get sound, the USB only provides the text information. However, if you use an Ipod Shuffle, the sound will play directly through the USB w/out the AUX connected. Is this because a different type of memory (flash) is used in the Ipod Shuffle? If so, does this mean that any other MP3 player with flash memory (specifically the Cowon O2 is what I'm interested in) would connect and play directly through the USB w/out the AUX connection?
I ask b/c if you connect through AUX, you lose sound quality b/c of D/A conversion. Also, if anyone is familiar with the BBE technology used in Cowon players to enhance the quality of MP3 music, do you know if the player is connected through a USB port, rather than through use of the headphones, will that circumvent the BBE enhancements? Is BBE only operative and effective when music is played through the headphones (and I presume has passed through a D/A converter)? Thanks for any help, I appreciate it. |

So whilst you are not loosing sound quality by using the AUX port, there will be the question "are the car electronics as good as the ones used by Cowon". So you asked if the BBE is active through the USB port when connected to the car in this way. The answer I am afraid is no. |

Hi guys,
I recently got a gorgeous 07 335i convertible (which I named Cleopatra ) with a usb connection. When I hook up my 3g Iphone, however, I cannot use the car controls to change the songs (I can only use the phone's touch screen). Obviously, the sound goes out on the AUX port. Is there some kind of update to make it work with the Iphone? If not, can I simply use an USB stick instead of getting another Ipod? Thanks. |
