More likely something you did. Like not getting the coils on
tight or plugs not gapped right or not correct. Scanner is required to find out which ones. |

I'm having a slightly rough idle at times when in "Drive" and the car is standing still. When turning at idle speed I'm getting a moderate surging idle - the car almost shut off last night when I was reversing out of a driveway and had the steering wheel was at it's furthest position to the right. Could this be the HPFP? (2011 335i)

Has anyone in Canada had their HPFP replaced more than once under the special emissions warranty? I have a 2009 335i at 109,000 km (or 68k miles), HPFP replaced back in December 2010 by BMW, and right now BMW Canada is not covering my car as they said "the SIB is not applicable to my VIN".
Any help would be appreciated. I also have a thread directed to Canadian members, or anyone else that wants a little bit of entertainment.

I was so happy to hear that when my HPFP failed it wasn't covered on my shit aftermarket warranty. Mine failed at about 61k miles in the middle of the highway. Had it happened just a few feet later than it did I would have been stuck on a four lane interstate with no shoulder. Thanks BMW!

I was told from the previous owner that the HPFP had been changed but he didn't have any paper work. There is a number on the HPFP but it doesn't look like any of the part numbers that are listed here. Is there a way to cross reference the number shown in the pic to the part number? Can anyone tell if this is a newer version or the original. This is on a 07 335i E93. When I googled the number in the pic it comes up with a used HPFP on ebay.

It needs to be Noted that the HPFP Extended Warranty does not include the N54T motors in the 335is and 1M. It is the same motor and same HPFP but for some reason BMW did not include them in the extended warranty. Ask me how I know?

I have run across at least 2 things that have resulted in rev hunting (surging), rough idles etc etc. yadada that are not high pressure fuel pumps.
First was a failing eccentric shaft actuator on an N55, second was a failed exhaust vanos solenoid on an N52. Eccentric shaft sensor didnt even throw a service light, had to read it with bavarian technic. Long story short, check your codes with a GOOD code reader (NOT autozone) before jumping to a fuel pump. |

Has anyone recently had success getting the HPFP replaced free without having to first pay to have the low pressure sensor replaced? My dealer told me that even though the codes all point to HPFP, that BMW now requires them to replace the low pressure sensor first, check again to make sure that the HPFP is actually the issue, and replace only then replace the HPFP if so. Really not happy about the 1 hour diagnostic fee, and 3 hours of labor for replacing the low pressure sensor when it wasn't even throwing codes for that. $849 is too much to pay for something that is "covered under warranty"

I haven't looked at the DIY but I'd try to replace the sensor myself and force their hand. At $87 for the part, I'd call them out on their ridiculous labor fee.

I agree it's ridiculous. Too late though - I had it towed in and they are doing the work. Just wondering if it would make sense to get BMW NA involved

335is Fuel pump.
Wanted to know if anyone created a heat shield for this part or a way to bring in cool air to it. I would pounder that the part being near the turbos (2) that the heat would be extreme. I plan on buying one soon and wanted a good idea on how to insure that mine does not fail.

Would this fail through a code? I have the same tick sound coming from the rear of my engine but no codes pop up? My first N55 so not sure what normal running sounds like.

HPFP 2008 335ix
Considering the purchase of a 2008 335ix. It has 90K+miles. Has had the fuel injectors, HPFP (2011), and low fuel pressure sensor (replaced recently) replaced. Most service records. Appears in very good condition. Drives very well.
No record of water pump replacement. Odds of several thousand miles without issues? Is 2008 a year to be avoided? Thanks in advance. |
