I've done a pile of BMWs with my power polisher over the years, allow a whole day. Was particularly pleased with this E36 328i. It was in a terrible state when I bought it for £400 (not a typo) and it took 3 days.

A few tips: Remove any trim you can including the Roundels. Put a cover over the glass and wheels to stop residue getting onto it. Never let residue dry, so best to avoid hot days. Not possible to use too much water when rinsing the car.

Very good that's what I was expecting. Mine has seen better days and will most likely require a full correction. Perhaps this fall I'll get it going

That E36 looks great btw

Does anyone know why the trim retainer clip next to the start button is different from the rest?

The hole for it is much bigger and the clips for the rest of the dash trim are too small

Nice! Love the 513m. Did you do stock staggered set front and rear or set of square fronts all around?

My trim clips were all the same size but maybe there's variance between years? Any chance it's been changed in the past?

Thanks tlow98 , I stuck to the staggered set up. The 513Ms are so hard to find but if I do get the chance to run a square set up I would love to try it.

Love those 513Ms. I searched forever for a set and eventually gave up and settled on a set of grey 437Ms.

If the fix ends up being fairly simple or at least cost effective, get it to run properly first. Cosmetics after. For OEM/OE parts I highly recommend FCP Euro. If they don't have the part for some reason, ECS Tuning is a decent alternative. Depending on the part I'd even say going to a scrap yard or eBay used parts would be fine.

As far as the issues you're having that's a bit out of my field. Best of luck to you

Got my customized M3 cluster with M logo delete and matching OEM amber for a simpler & more uniform look. Installation was a breeze as it was PnP. I want to thank LMB33IS for the smooth transaction and job well done.

Resprayed my start/stop button as the black paint was starting to peel off. Pretty happy with the result (painting is not my forte). Satin black finish, for those interested.

So today I cleaned out my VANOS check valves. Top one was filthy, bottom fine. Not too bad a job but you really do need to access them from the wheel arch. Went for a test drive and there is a good deal more power from 3-4k rpm now. Once the new seals arrive I'll do the VANOS solenoids too. Fairly sure they were sticking. BMW should have made them a bit bigger, they're small and easily clogged.

Also did an armrest mod. I cut the legs off a spare armrest and velcro'd it on top of the old one. Much, much better elbow support. I'm smallish and the E90 armrest didn't work for my. E46 was just perfect. I'll dye it black now I know it works.

Alas just as I was getting back from the test drive the ABS, TPMS and DSC lights went on! INPA tells me I have a bad right rear wheel sensor. It never ends....

For anyone wondering why my 325i seems to have a five speed gearbox in that last photo. The gear knob has served me well on four or five previous BMWs, it follows me from car to car. I've got a six speed badge but not mounted it yet. The old '80s style leather gear knob was the best BMW ever made.

I just did mine last weekend as well. Same, satin black, but with the addition of an aliexpress red button cap. Turned out great.

Today I tried this: https://bimmertips.com/renew-faded-b...without-paint/

I made a solution of 50% boiled linseed oil (£5 a bottle from a DIY store) and 50% white spirit. I painted a very thin coat on the faded plastic wing mirror surrounds and the rear tailgate wiper cover. Wow! Amazing. We'll see how long it lasts. Thin coats are way better, you need very little.

In the past on more porous soft plastics such as the bumper strips on my E46 and scuttle below the windscreen I've used teak oil with great success. Lasts about 4-6 months. But it's no use for hard plastics.

I assume this would work with interior plastics as well, would it not? The seat belt buckle release on my Recaro's is extremely faded and I havent found anything yet that works long term...

Someone did Alignment for me. Drove 15 minutes no traffic. Just had to wait a hour and 20 minutes for car to be done on a nice chair.
