I tried reading this thread as best as possible but I can’t find a firm answer...

Will this work if I don’t have PDC?

Thanks!

Yes. I've installed this setup in a car without rear PDC and it works fine.

Hi,
This is not the emulator's problem.
The problem comes from the camera.
The camera can't get power when second shift to reverse gear.

I find this really bizarre that the camera wouldn't get power after the first shift into reverse. This is the camera I've purchased:

Anyone else experience this?
Did you test the white cable coming out of the emulator when the car is put into R? Should give you 12V. I had a bad emulator from them, it was only putting out 3V. Goodluck trying to get a return, lol. He told me to use 12V from the reserve light, I told him to expect a Paypal claim.

need some help. I have bought 3 separate cameras off amazon and having no luck... of the 3 cameras I bought
1) trunk handle camera. the rubber cover was loose and it felt really bad when opening
2) trunk handle camera. it came with full size RCA and power adapter, no way of fishing that through the wire loom
3) license plate light camera. it was supposed to be for E90, but when I put it in, the light was too small and doesn't fit the hole for the light.

So basically, i have been at this adventure of installing a camera for 4 weeks and all I have done was make the post man extra work. what's a good quality camera?

I went for this option:
2) trunk handle camera. it came with full size RCA and power adapter, no way of fishing that through the wire loom

I cut the RCA cable to thread through the factory rubber flexi parts of the boot. It also meant that when resoldering, I could make it the perfect length so there wasn't loads of coiled up extra wire anywhere on the car. The £11.50 ebay cameras from China work perfect. I do agree, it feels a little bit slacker than the factory switch, but it operates perfectly and seals well.

I have successfully installed this following OP instruction. I installed it without PDC and it works fine.

The only problem is whenever I run a test scan via ISTA/D, it stops working afterward (reverse screen does not come up when I shift gear to R.)

Remedy to the problem, if I just unplug the emulator BUS tap to the headhunt and plug them back, it starts working again.

Anyone experience similar problem? and how to avoid it (other than stop using ISTA/D, not that I want to anyways haha)? It seems that ISTA/D messes it up when scanning through the car.

Funny thing is that it works perfectly on the first shift into reverse but fails on subsequent shifts into reverse which does suggest a lower voltage output as you pointed out.

How did you go about fixing yours? Did you tap into the reverse camera?

I've done a little more reading around this thread about the "works first time only" problem with back up camera. Some people have pointed out that this problem could be due the version of cic being old and that a firmware or software update might fix the problem...can anyone confirm this?

My version is CIC.C08 and I wonder if getting this updated might do the trick.

No one's version is really CIC.C08, that's just the default that it shows before reading, you have to check after reading. Should be CIC-C1A or such.

Probably find CIC.C08 is not your version. make sure you press read cic in ncs expert then you will know the version. You will have the latest C1A version i'd imagine going by your cars year.
But check it out.

Right so my cic version is CIC.C0D. Is this old?

Please note that I have the ability to update maps via USB as I recently did a map update.

So what cic version do I need and how do I update it?

I bought this camera and it does not work for me. I exchanged it and it still does not work. Ran the wire to the rear taillight for 12V and grounded it to the battery.

I can confirm my emulator works as a local AV shop was able to get the camera to display when using a Pioneer backup camera and fed the camera feed into the emulator.

Have you tested the camera in isolation by simply giving it 12 volts and connecting it with a monitor?

Is there an updated link to this harness and the emulator?

So did you have to code in PDC as well as the backup camera option?

And when you’re in reverse, does the car show an error for PDC since there are no sensors?

Thanks!

Coding is identical, no PDC errors.

Hey guys I'm struggling with my DIY today. I have everything installed but I get nothing on my screen. When I change the L6 part of the coding I go from having PDC view to absolutely nothing when I go in reverse. Please help if you can

Crimped. I would agree the problem is likely to be the connection.
Have you ever figured this problem out? I'm in the same situation

I've got a half way house situation. Just carried out an idrive retrofit on an E87 - England version.
It only had business radio as standard and now has Pro Nav, combox and cd changer, all working fine.

While doing the above, I wanted to add front parking sensors (rear only from factory) and a reversing camera to display via the CIC pro nav.

Knowing I would need a new PDC I got the 636 part number from an E84 with reverse camera and F & R pdc. I have already used one of these PDC modules on my other car (2010 E91, to which I have added a reverse camera using genuine camera and TRSVC module, which works fine). On the E87 I was hoping to be able to use a chinese camera, fed directly into the CIC with no TRSVC. Basically the same install as post 1 of this thread, but using a genuine PDC instead of emulator.

I have coded the CIC, and now get signals displayed from all 8 PDC sensors, but cannot get an image from reverse camera at all. Tried pins 18 & 28 and 21 & 24, and Wert values of 21 & 23. All that is shown in the space where the image should be is a zoomed in version of the parking sensor display. So in reverse, it is zoomed in on the back, and in forward it is zoomed in on the front. The camera icon is greyed out in park menu.

Can anyone clarify whether my above proposal should work, and would the camera have to PAL or NTSC?

Thanks
