Went to a friend's farm for a Christmas Tree bonfire last night. 22 degrees, but fire and Red Breast kept us toasty!

Did someone mention Fred? Retired in 17 after spending eternity or so it seemed flying around in one.

I totally get that, and that is one of the main reasons I left California when I retired. I couldn't take the endless cycles of drought and wildfire seasons anymore. I am much happier dealing with mild basement flooding due to heavy rain.

I was a TALCE CC, Flight Commander and XO in the 615th AMCS 1995-1997 at Travis before I punched out to the Reserves (as a Fred driver) and the airlines. R.

I was an MST in the 815th AMS at Travis from 2000 until 2005 when I retired. I was a C-17 loadmaster at Charleston for 4 years, so it was either TALCE at Travis or being sentenced to instructor duty at Altus. I chose wisely

I avoided LTS by the skin of my teeth too. Those teenagers pushing baby strollers around Wal-Mart? They were NOT babysitters. Not much else to do out there in the boonies except make baby's with farmer's daughters!

2016 KCEF Airshow, I was fortunate to be leaving as I hated working home station airshows.
I retired out of USAFR with 25 years AD was ALCE back in the stoneage at Dover and Misawa then went into the USAFR and did 21 years as a C5 Loadmaster. |

All this talk about C-5's and C-17's...........allow me to introduce Hercules.
The C-130 is the baddest, most diversified Aircraft in the World. Period. I've flown plenty on all the platforms, but since I was a C-130 Crew Chief for 13 years before cross training, i'ts obviously my favorite. If you've never been on a Low Level terrain following ride completely blacked out on NVG's, you havent lived. Crewed HC-130 P/N and EC-130H models. Below is 69-5827. My name was on her side for a few years. Last edited by HerkHealer; 01-21-2022 at 12:09 PM.. |

Your's truly standing on the open ramp of an E model Herc, high over the Yuma Arizona during a HALO drop. I think I was like 20 in this photo
I acquired over 3,000 hours on 130's before moving on to 141s, then to 27s (Panama), and finally to 17s before my final stint to the TALCE. I was fortunate to love every assignment I ever had. Me on the ramp of a C-130 high over the AZ desert by lennycarl08, on Flickr |

Best thing I ever saw was dropping Spec Ops off in Northern Iraq during Desert Storm. Loaded up with ATV's, Dune Buggies, etc......landed at a "strip" in "somewhere" , dropped the ramp while still rolling down the runway, Spec Ops rolls out the back and into the night, we raise the ramp and take back off. Less than 2 minutes. Unreal. |

here's another one, cooper hawk waiting lunch to come back. It's been lurking around because I feed the birds.
