my car just left on a flatbed to the dealer a few hours ago. i have nearly 51k miles and it has all the symptoms of hpfp failure. Long crank, SES light, reduced power due to engine malfunction, rough idle, nearly stalled several times, etc...
Does anybody hear a slight pumping or primering sound when you insert your key but not pushed start? I had my plugs replaced about 3k miles ago and it seems like before that I used to hear that primering sound or something just before I pushed the start button. |

Second time in the last two weeks; the car cuts power and goes into limp mode under hard cornering. Both times i was cornering hard from a dead stop. HPFP? I got rid of my E46 M3 because I was starting to not trust it on long work trips...now I don't feel I can trust this MOFO to go through the mountains or on a trip longer than four hours!! |

I asked the SA by phone if they were going to use the so-called new improved HPFP and he told me that they would use the "latest and greatest". (his term, not mine) Well, when I got the invoice it had the old part number ending in 881 and he was too busy for me to discuss it, so I just left. Just another typical dealer experience where I leave slightly to very frustrated. Last edited by BMWfan07; 02-10-2010 at 04:06 PM.. Reason: sp |

So i just had my SES light come after a long crank. The engine started shaking and i restarted the car. SES light goes away but i still take it to the dealer and they check it out and say it was because i had low fuel?? Is that really possible or could they have changed my HPFP without telling me because they knew i would lemon it since its the 3rd time in about 5 months? Is there anyway of knowing if they really changed my pump?

Well, it's good you're getting the new pump. We'll be able to start following soon, how those new pumps are doing...

old pumps declared scrap by BMWNA!
Took my '08 in this morning for long cranks, and was told by the service writer that they got a memo from BMWNA last Friday, instructing dealers to scrap all the HPFP's with the old stock number, and to order and install ONLY the new part number pump!
Interesting... |

^ Indeed...anyone else knows a friendly SA/mechanic could confirm this? But then we will still have to wait and see how the new pump works. At least we know BMW is trying....

New HPFP installed, car cranks right up, feels soooo goood. My Sa told me they shipped all the old HPFP back to BMW,and he has all new part #'s. Can the dealership update your ECU without telling you ??

Got a new HPFP today.
Stats: 08 335i 25K miles Symptoms: Long cranks Sporatic Engine shuttering when accelerating that cleared by restarting the car Finally randomly flagged the SES light after hitting 4000k rpm, engine shuttering followed no Limp mode indicated (which was kind of weird compared to everyone else) Fault Code 2FBF according to BMW Service Test Fix: Under warranty, dealer pointed out the extended warranty plan of 120,000 miles No issues replacing HPFP under warranty even with Injen DCI installed. 13-51-7-592-881 HPFP fuel pump installed |
