Well done! I'm always amazed on how fast you work. This would have taken me weeks to do! But I guess you have some practice in this...
Which oil did you use for the new filling?

I only had one day with a free hoist, so it had to be done asap! The amsoil that came out still looked great and everything in the trans looked great, so I saved as much as I could and topped up with 1/2qt of fresh amsoil. I know you prefer zf fluid, but I didn't see anything that would suggest throwing away $110 of fluid.

It's not my first rodeo by any means with an auto so that helps! Today a medium duty 10 speed is on the bench.

Everyone gets excited about the ZF fluid. It is very good, however, there are comparable and I dare say even better fluids out there. It is hard to tell what is in the container, but synthetic basestocks made from polyester are superior. They have incredible shear strength, even at high temperature. That's why I'm a fan of Red Line Oils.

Having said that, the real problem is with the oil pump. It is too small. Ford fixed that in their version of the ZF6HP26, the 6R60/80. As a result, any trans fluid with very high shear strength is going to benefit these BMW transmissions. Of course, it also has to match the viscosity and other specifications of the ZF fluid.

Wow, those are some serious gears!
Agreed on the fluid. If it sill looked good, there's no point in throwing away good oil.

FedEx man brought a goodie to test fit just in time for driving to California on Monday!

Im heading from northern Michigan through St Louis down to Oklahoma city to catch I40 and running that all the way to metro LA. So if anyone along that route needs a quick hand with something 335d related or just wants to go for a ride in a tuned/deleted/meth'ed car, give me a shout!

Saved that for middle of nowhere new Mexico and Arizona .

Made it to California on the 3rd day, car ran like a champ! Averaged 35.4mpg for the drive out over 2436 miles. Did 41.4mpg on the half tank fill up from Phoenix to Palm Springs.

Tried some of the California hippy juice, very impressed! I seriously wish we could get this stuff in the Midwest. Very unique non chemical exhaust smell that isn't offensive even being fully deleted with no cat. Very significant reduction in exhaust smoke at wot also. Not that it was very smokey, but it's basically smoke free on this stuff.

Took a scenic drive up mountain highway 74 today, gorgeous views and 28 miles of twisties!

I'm in the lake Elsinore area until the 3rd if anyone here wants to grab a beer!

Yep, im going to have to do this too some point, not looking forward to it. Ive had the 4-5 flare for a while now, but since I dont really ever need to WOT shift 4-5 I have just put it off and tried not to induce that shift. Mine actually seems like its better under WOT than it is under heavy part throttle (50-75%), maybe related to the higher shift pressure commanded at the higher load vs part load.

Looks like you didnt do clutches at all, how many miles do you have? Did you get any sense of the clutch condition? At 145k miles im inclined to do the clutches while im in there but that turns a big project into a much bigger project.

Gave the D some much needed love today.

Swirl flaps were seeping so plugs were put in, changed the glow plug control module that's been throwing a light for the last 9 months, fuel filter, and a set of bilstein b8's with strut mounts. The stock sport struts were GONE at 138kmi, I can't wait to go for a drive tomorrow and feel the difference. Immediately after test drive, ecu will be sent off to JR for a 2.8 update ☺️.

Bilstien's are always a nice upgrade. I'm sure she's going to feel much better than with the old shocks!

Nice! I enjoy my B8s but am now shopping around the next step. Coming from a string of M3s owned over the years the 335d could use some chassis tightening.

My never steps look to be M3 front arms and try rear subframe inserts.

Holy cow, sooooo much nicer! The car doesn't get unsettled anymore hitting a bump mid corner. It's definitely firm but not harsh.

I'll get around to the M suspension bits for sure eventually (except for the rear lower arms since they take different shocks). I plan on doing the rear subframe bushings when I do the manual swap since I have to change rear diffs anyway.
