Yep, no idea what these guys are on about.

Yes and I made the mistake of buying the manual. Dudes talking themselves up about driving a stick with a servo doing 80% of the work makes no sense to me.

Neither of them are great, so get whatever you desire and don’t look back. I have the ZF and there’s definitely a delay in shifts. It’s nowhere near as enjoyable as a PDK.

I wouldn’t concern yourself with the reported lack of torque on the manual. These cars have plenty of torque. They’re traction limited in lower gears so you won’t even be able to feel it. Even if you can perceive the difference between the two, your body will adjust and it won’t matter.

I drove a new X3MC at the dealer today, specifically to get a feel for the auto+S58.

I’ll be ordering my M2 in a 6MT.

While the Auto was very good, I felt the control and a bit of the magic was missing.
I will deal with the MT in traffic and that’s that, lol.

I also saw another vehicle in Portimao Blue Metallic. This confirmed my desires for Frozen Portimao Blue.

Now I just need my ‘25 allotment!

I plan on ordering a MT as soon as I see if there are any individual colors available. I want a MT because, well, I already have a beast with no gears to shift.

MT for the win.

Just came back from a back-to-back X3M comp & Gen3 Macan S testdrives myself. Honestly, it's a night and day difference between this and M-DCT, let alone PDK, in shift crispness and speed. I really did not have fun paddle shifting the car.

6MT will make you very happy; just make sure to wait until the clutch is fully broken in. Huge difference.

Have you guys put the transmission in S3 for these tests and Sport + mode - they are not slow shift on the AT with everything turned up.
In fact i drive in S2 when in M2 mode (everything on max) as its less harsh.

Each to their own, I had M2C before with DCT and this does not seem a compromise to me.

Yep - tried all modes. ^^

Again, I think the auto is great (sometimes a bit of confusing behavior) but my deal is, I've been driving an auto in other vehicles for a long time and it's just time to get back into a manual (while I still can.)

The current 8-speed ZF may not be everyone's cup of tea. But it's much stronger, more efficient & much more consistent than a manual will ever be. Sure, it's fun rowing the gears at the track. But at triple digits speeds & while entering a corner a touch too hot, the last thing I want to be doing is have one hand on the steering wheel while I'm trying to heal & toes the next gear. It's always fun passing manual cars on the street & track because they're very tied to the "feeling" & engaged driving mindset it gives them. It's just not for me. In my 20's & maybe even early 30's you wouldn't be able to convince me otherwise though. And yes, I've had a DCT in my F87 OG M2 before. So I know what riffle like quick shifts are all about. Trying coding the CSL TCU tune in your ZF 8-speed auto if you really think it resembles a slow sluhbox. The come back & update us with what your thoughts are...

The original question was "Were/are any of you 6MT guys tempted by the Auto?" not will the auto guys please chime in and justify their purchase.

There are good reasons to buy either.

I don't think there is any doubt that if you bought your M2 to stoplight race or spend most of its life on the track that the auto would be the better choice.

But, the auto is not what everyone wants and we should be celebrating the fact that a manual is still being offered.

Was I tempted? Sure.

But the sole reason I ordered this car was to get back to my roots: shifting gears! This is a dying breed and won’t be around much more.

No. I had a manual transmission F82 M4, and for a variety of reasons I sold it. I am currently driving an Audi S3 which is DCT-only. It shifts quick, sure, but god damn I miss rowing the gears. Can't wait to get my new M2 with MT that I have on order. As others have said, auto is undeniably faster, but...who cares? I want to shift the gears myself.

I’m a diehard stick fan but I found the ZF8 speed the better fit for the engine and that’s a huge compliment considering I have a DCT M
