The two small ports at the bottom of the radiator. That's where the coolant lines from the transmission oil-to-coolant heat exchanger plug into.

Ran into limp mode over the weekend and had to get towed. BMW installed PPK stage 1 without my car having an AUX oil cooler. It looks like the real issue I am having is coolant temps vs. oil temps.

Are there any differences between the CSF rad vs. Mishimoto? Thanks!

Why would you need to get it towed with just a overheat limp mode???

You need the stock oil cooler, not an upgraded radiator in your case. Stock setup is enough for street use, especially with your mild PPK tune and don't mind the occasional 260-270F oil temp when pushed hard during the summer. Just change your oil more often, if I were you.

But anyway, CSF is much more reasonably priced than Mishimoto, and offers options for both MT and AT cars, while Mishi only has their overpriced radiator for MT. Core size looks to be nearly identical from my measurement, but CSF uses their B-tube design, which in theory, is more efficient than a standard tube.

Looks like N55 has the same radiator as N54, according to RealOEM.

Cloud9, how did yours lineup?

I installed mine a couple of days ago and it fits in the locking slit on one side but not the other. I'm wondering if mine was made incorrectly or if they are all like this? I will be contacting Ravoli today to let him know. He has provided the highest level service possible thus far...

Sorry, misread your post...

My lined up just fine. Almost like OEM parts. The only thing that off by a few mm was the location of the top passenger side screw that hold down the shrouding to the radiator.

Cloud9blue I hit 3 limp modes within 60 miles of driving around 2k RPM, heat on and it was 45 degree outside. Was still 80 miles from home.

I have future upgrades down the road that would require more cooling so I am ok with overbuilding the cooling systems now.

I bet it is your water pump going out. This isn't normal...

I agree it is the water pump. I question that since they installed the PPK Stage 1 (without me having the auxiliary oil cooler) it is putting more stress on the water pump. I am trying to work with the dealership to see if they can do anything for this oversight.

Your extremely mild PPK tune has very little effect, if any, on the longevity of your water pump.

I would suggest you do a little more research and figure out what's your plan with this car, before dropping money on it.

I highly doubt that you will need a radiator like this for street use, even if you go with an upgraded turbo in the future (plus, it sounds like you have N55, which doesn't suffer as much as thermal problem as the N54)... Plenty of guys run FBO, upgraded turbos, and even big single turbo year round on stock cooling system with very little ill effects, even on the drag strips...

Road course events are different matter though, since you are going WOT every few seconds, and continuously so for 20-30 mins. Anyway, no need to derail this thread any further.

Do you mind posting a few pics of the fitment issue you have? Space and fitment is tight down there even with stock radiator, so I suspect there is some misalignment from your install that is causing the issue.

Any update on this guys? I'm interested in this mainly for longevity. From what I read, our stock rad needs to be switched out every 100k vs an aluminum rad which should last forever. I was considering the PPK aux radiator but I think going with an upgraded alum rad is better than the stock + aux rads

Bump for an update. Just found a pin hole leak in the seam between metal and plastic and am looking to upgrade the radiator.

Edit: Patience is not my strong suit... Placed an order for the 335i Auto Radiator (Part No: CSF7046) and it looks like there are only 2 left in stock (after my purchase).

CSF is better bang for the buck than going with stock + 335is/PPK rad.
Had mine for 4 track days so far, no issue. My oil temp never goes much more than 250F on the track either, with the dinan oil cooler and aux radiator.

even if the dme controls the pump its just because they intend to keep the temperature at the same level. if you put a more performing RAD the temp will drop faster anyway and keep the car cooler ... gonna order one mostly as well to control better the AT trans temps. never went to limp because of temps at the track but temps are mild where i live

i wonder if the waterpump will last longer with this rad since it won't need to work as hard

i'm looking to do this along with an upgraded oil cooler, AN lines and an 180F oil thermostat. hopefully these will keep the temps in check

Is CSF a vendor here? Or do I purchase it from the website?

You can order it by emailing Ravi. He has extended some of the best service I have had on this platform.
