I'm having a similar issue, but my crackling is coming from the passenger mid. Its also installed in an E90.

The crackling noise is annoying and comes and goes. I wonder if its an issue with our wiring?

I know the power wire runs on the passenger side, I'm wondering if the factory wiring is run on the same side and if it's picking up noise from there?

Yes. In a 2009 328i. I have replaced my stock professional radio with Dynavin N6. All factory wiring as my car was Hifi. I have had the N6 with an MS-8, Stock Amp and XD600/6. Never had crackling issue on any of them though.

I installed a BimmerTech PP82DSP (Match) in my car with Hifi and all stock speakers. The sound improvement over stock is leaps and bounds ahead. I actually bought a used one from F30 forum which had the tune for BSW speakers. I reduced the output level so that it does not put much pressure on stock speakers. The sound imaging is awesome especially for the drivers seat. Also, there is no bluetooth echo issue that plagued the MS-8. I previously had an XD600 which is also great as an Amp but made my stock speakers feel a little too weak. The treble was completely missing on stock tweeters. But the PP82DSP makes them alive again.

I had also spoken to Ken at MusicarNW who also sell the PP82DSP (a little on the pricier side). Comparing the 2, Musicar uses the 12V constant from the battery while the bimmertech uses stock AMP harness' power. So you probably get a little more power using Musicar's setup. In either case, you cannot go wrong. I am in the process of replacing my stock speakers slowly. So I can only imagine the sound improving here on

I should probably mention I am using Dynavin N6 in my car. So the sound quality may vary if you have stock radio.

In my quest to improve my Hi-Fi system I stumbled on the PP82DSP and the glowing reviews on this forum, including this OP by e90bmw328i, I pulled the trigger, contacted Nelson and just finished installing this little gem. The install was simple and under 30 minutes. The upgrade was performed on a bone stock Hi-Fi system as serves as the opening volley to improve the sound. Considering suggestions by the many professionals that contribute to this forum, my plan is to go at this in phases and find bliss as the next weak link exposes itself and is addressed.

So, how does it sound? Does it live up to the hype and glowing reviews?

Yes.

With my initial impression I was honestly surprised and will echo what e90bmw328i had to say. It is a drastic improvement. No hype here folks, this little amp performs. Nelson sent the amp out with the e90 Hi-Fi tune, which is quite good. Staging and clarity are the most dramatic improvements. I was concerned with the driver-centric tune and thought I would change it. Not so fast. Sounds great in the passenger seat and my impression was echoed by my audiophile (he thinks) son. If you have your shopping list prepared for the full monte upgrade, this is a good place to start.

The amount of technical knowledge and experience members are willing to take the time to share and explain on this forum is impressive. Let me call out Nelson for his professionalism. Accommodating, responsive, and skilled in his craft are descriptors. In this day and age of piss-poor customer service, it is refreshing to work with a guy like Nelson. A good start and with a couple more changes on the list and I'm excited to hear how much better this system can sound.

As stated before this amp only works with HiFi system - if you have HiFi then it is PnP

Will not work with Basic or Logic7 systems

Hey Guys, I'm having a ton of trouble with the DSP Software, and hoping someone can help. Now getting ZERO audio in the car, so it's hugely frustrating.

I installed the Amp yesterday and loved the sound out of the box, however I found it a bit too harsh at the top end so figured I might as well see if I could tweak it to better customize towards my setup ('09 335i, BSW Stage one, BSW Ghost Subs). Plugged the computer in and started software up. Running 2.93 based off recommendations I've seen on forums here. As the software was starting up it started loading, and then I got the error: "Communication Problems! Would you like to close the application." After hitting no, it just popped back up again, until I eventually said yes. Then there was no sound at all.

I then tried to install v.3.28 to see if that worked, and that starts up and auto-updates the unit...working (although with a weird condensed interface). But as I'm loading profiles it just sounds totally off - nothing close to what Tune was like out of the box. Went back to 2.93, and after auto-updating the unit again, it worked briefly - but then started with the same error messages, sometimes it never loads, and now it's back to no sound.

I'm hoping to get help with the following:

1) Anybody have any clue what's going on with v2.93? Any solves for this or something I can do different.

2) Does anyone have tunes for Bavsound or e90? Either one would be hugely helpful.

3) Bimmertech guys, is there any way to get back to the original tune that the amp was sent out with?

Hey Nelson, What tunes do you have available for the E90? I currently have the bavsound tune and to me it lacks bass from the underseat.

Sounds to me like you have to "personalize" the file you have rather than look for a different one and hope it has more bass. The unit has a lot of adjustability, why not use it?

I guess that's my next step. Just wanted to compare the Bavsound tune -vs- the E90 stock tune.

Switch 4 does. Switch 2 controls overall gain.

I will set switch 4 to on mode (+2db) and see if it makes a difference to the underseat woofers.

I don't need the overall gain to be improved so I will leave switch 2 alone.

Thanks for letting us know Nelson. I also have a 2011 335i with the HK factory upgrade. But I'm looking for something to add more kick to my full Stage-1 BSW driver upgrade.

Not likely going to happen. HK system uses proprietary MOST bus and there is no good (cheap) way of tapping into that signal. Best option you have is to re-code to HiFi and run some wires to the trunk, and then you can use the Bimmertech unit, although not as PnP as with the stock HiFi system.

Anyone else having trouble connecting the Helix software to the amp? I'm trying to load Nelson's tune and I keep getting a "communications problem" message.

I'm running windows 10 on a a Macbook Pro Retina with latest version of parallels if that matters. I tried running the software in compatibility mode and that didn't help either. Any other suggestions?

I'm on 2.8, did not have the Jenhert tune installed though because I started off with the OEM speakers and Nelson hadn't made the Jenhert version yet
