Maybe i'm mistaken, but it seems the issue changed from Kap's protest to national anthems having no place at sporting events. There are lots of sporting events in the US. While i do think professional athletes are over paid and over praised (just like entertainment celebrities) i feel like they should recognize that the country they live in is likely the only one on the planet in which they had the opportunity to become what they have become.

I've read through hundreds of comments from various websites involving this controversy. This comment has got to be the best!!!

You think in countries that aren't free, professionals have opportunities for financial success? Talk to a doctor or engineer in North Korea about that. I bet good basketball players do much better in north korea than professionals do.

I really cared a lot about professional sports, but then I graduated high school.

The incessant, downright ridiculous obsession this country has with watching grown men play a child's game will always make me sick. They idolize these buffoons to the point where they have no problem spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars to go worship their idols, for some stupid game which will be forgot in a week, all so these clowns can make millions only to be broke again 3-5 years out of the game.

What's even creepier to me is how bad it is for college sports now. I mean the adulation and hero worship at the pro level is revolting enough, but grown men going to college games and worshiping 17-21 year olds? Sick stuff people, go get a hobby.

Slam dunk. If we cared half as much about hunger/poverty/disease as we care about football, we wouldn't have any problems at all.

Because my point is that of all the countries on the planet, the US is the best chance most athletes have to gain a platform in which to publicly protest the national anthem on a world level. Without the very country they are protesting, they most likely wouldn't have a voice to protest with.

Undeniable fact that the US offers the most opportunity for collegiate and professional sports careers.

Edit: Didn't even touch on the freedom allowed to protest the national anthem of the country that affords him that freedom. I bet if good basketball players North Korea protested the national anthem, they wouldn't exist anymore.

because cops weren't afraid of black men last year, or the year before.
So no issues between black men and cops before 12 mos. ago? Or is it just no bandwagon to jump on until recently?

For all of the examples above the "freedom of speech" says the government won't arrest or prosecute you for it, nothing says your employer can't fire you by there own rules. Many positions in society are held to much higher standards than what the government requires.

Similar to not being allowed to have visible tatoos, men having earings, etc., some employers won't allow it.

I fully support his right as a U.S. citizen to not stand up during the anthem but I can still hate his actions, and if I was his employer or a prospective employer I would consider all of his actions when it came time to look at him for continued employment in my organization or for him to join my organization. Actions can still have consequences whether or not the government allows those actions.

So cops had no issues with blacks until about a year ago when they all of a sudden were afraid and started shooting them?

Your argument is moronic. Race relations didnt just all of a sudden take a step back. In fact, over the last 10 years, Police involved shootings of African Americans has, drum roll please, stayed the same across the US or even decreased in some areas. The reason you are seeing all this outrage now, and not 10 years ago is the rise of social media, and the latest craze of how many clicks can i get. Add to it a President who hasnt done anything to help the divide and now the less intelligent think its an epidemic.

So you're saying the NFL players are protesting during the national anthem because cops are now afraid of black guys and the cops are getting killed?
