Nearing the 150,000 mark in the next couple of months. No serious issues at all really. I have a strong engine to say the least! However, I would like to take it in to see what I can get covered. Don't have a ton of experience with dealerships, so looking for advice on how to go about this.
Only issues I really have are engine idle surging when I change gears, and transmission slipping on acceleration gear changes.(rpm will jump about 300-500 rpm before i try to shift from 3rd to 4th). I also have an inkling suspicion that my coils/plugs are going to need to be replacing soon. Is there a certain scanning tool I should use to try and find any hidden issues? How should I go about going into the dealership to see what I can get covered? Thanks guys!

Getting close to 149,xxx. How should I go about taking my car into the dealer before my warranty is out? Should I just say "coming in to get a check on what needs to be replaced or serviced", or be straight up and say "I am just here to see what I can get covered under my SULEV warranty"?

59k miles CEL and misfiring so BMW Burlingame, CA replaces all 6 coils and spark plugs under sulev warranty. This was back in March 2019. Went online to find out our seeping OFGH is not covered under sulev warranty. |

are you certain about the OFHG? I'm pretty sure I've read reports of people having that covered.

Tried to get my Vanos solenoids and valve cover replaced on 2007 N51 in Kansas, no dice. Even though the car was purchased in California and the warranty terms say "and/or registered" the service manager flat out refused saying: "The vehicle has to be registered in and originally retailed in a state that follows the California regulations. Kansas does not follow these emissions standards. We have tried to get these covered by BMW in the past and they have been declined by BMW every time."
I talked to BMW corporate and they seemed to agree with me it should be covered but basically said they had no power to force them to do it. Was worth a shot I guess. Cost aside I'd rather do it myself anyway. |

Hello, I have a 2011 N51 328i. It started having issues with low fuel pressure and dying right after it starts. Replaced the fuel pump and found out that theres something inside the fuel tank leaking and resulting in low fuel pressure. I cam across this site and the sulev warranty and was relieved because I didnt want to have to replace the fuel tank for $3000. Anyway, took it to the dealer and since I'm in Texas they're telling me theres no warranty. Called BMW NA(was no help at all)and they confirmed that if the vehicle is registered in one of the 7 sulev states then it would be covered. Has anyone gotten bmw to cover any of these repairs out of state? I dont have 3 grand to replace the fuel tank. Especially not a few weeks before Christmas. My only option is to get it warrantied or pull all the crap in the tank out and try to repair/modify it myself.

A) valve cover + valve cover gaskets
B) $1600 i believe C) completely covered D) had to send them the parts list and explain the warranty to my service advisor. He was able to get it all approved. Should be noted originally they did not want to cover the valve cover but i said i thought it should be since all the 2016+ vehicles specifically defined the valve gasket cover set as both the cylinder head cover and the gaskets. Also took my car in with mods and bimmerlabs 330i tune and they didnt even mention it. E) nope |

Just got six coils and six spark plugs replaced to fix a misfire problem in my N51 powered 128i. Fully covered.
I am also averaging about 1 MPG better in mixed driving after the coil and plug change.

Because that’s BMW’s standard procedure when replacing coils due to misfires.

If others are getting plugs covered without a fault code, maybe I need to pursue this a little further. I paid for plugs and coils in 2016 before I knew about the existence of the SULEV warranty. I got reimbursed for the coils two years later, but not the plugs. |

SULEV coverage in Florida in 2019 - how I got it
Quote:
So I started researching and found that Vermont (a Sulev state) allows anyone to register a car (and transfer car title to Vermont) - - without being a Vermont resident, and insurance not required to register/transfer title. So I filled out the application and added the application fee (about $100), overnighted it to a courier in Burlington (paid him about $100), he walked it in, got the temporary title and new license plates and overnighted it back to me. I changed my plates, towed the car back to BMW, and they did the job under the SULEV warranty. Yesterday, I transferred my Vermont title back to Florida, about $100. Thanking God for that success! ✝️ Note: Courier's name is Edimos Delivery Service - at EDS Courier in Burlington. Nice guy, honest, helpful, fair. |

damn i wish i had found this thread a few months back. i have a 2011 328i N52 that I replaced coils, spark plugs and OFHG at an indy here in california. didn't even know about this SULEV warranty at all. the car was even at the dealership for the PCV and heater recalls last year and they didn't mention it.
is it worth it to go in for valve cover and valve cover gaskets?? |

You may or may not be able to get the plugs covered, others on this thread have but I was told they were only covered if they were damaged by a malfunctioning coil. The valve cover gasket is covered if your dealer determines that it needs replaced. Keep in mind that the SULEV warranty does not cover maintenance replacement, it only covers you when the part fails. |

I never had the valve cover gasket replaced, only the Oil Filter Housing Gasket which was found to be leaking by the BMW dealership when I took the car in for recalls. it's too bad when they found it leaking they didn't offer to fix it with this warranty. I will call BMWNA in regards to the reimbursement but should I take the car back in to the dealer to assess the valve cover gasket?

I just noticed that you said it was an N52. Only the N51 engine has a SULEV designation. So unless you were wrong and your engine is actually an N51, you aren't covered under the warranty. If the car was originally purchased in a SULEV state, it should be an N51.
