Yes drilled rotors are basically a gimmick. All they do is increase the chances of rotors cracking. Basically an old tech that has remained around for aesthetics. Slotted rotors do remove pad glazing, but can increase pad wear.

The rotors are definitely small. Thanks to an idiotic R&T article, some internet fodder has been going around the ME Vette was lapping the ring under 7min...testing some high-hend ME Vette. The top range C8 will be wearing some big carbon ceramics and big aero, to try and dip under or near 7min. Clearly you can tell this is the base model car they are testing, most likely mid 7min car around the ring at best.
We shall see. While I agree with you on it not dropping to 7, I'd be very surprised if it runs in the mid-7:30's considering the C7 Z51 did a 7:33 and the C7 GS was at 7:27.

I bet the GS had the carbon ceramics to break under 7:30. I'm not trying to hate on this car, just trying to tamp down some of the hyped expectations. The test car back a page is definitely just a base C8. For the record, I like the C7(GS is perfect spec) and not one of the ME haters...very much welcome the move to mid engine. If a base C8 can break 7:30, that is very promising for future high end models.

I really hope they don’t ‘f’ this one up

the ZL1 is my first American car, and I love it...this could be my next one.

Looks good in last render. Just hope they change the design of the trunk spoiler from the last test pics posted, that thing is hideous.

I would expect so, as its being predicted that the front engine C7 will stay around while this mid-engine c8 gets added to the lineup.

Im not so sure of this, it seems this will be like most other vetted, mass produced with multiple variants. Bet we see it starting around 60-65, with wholesalers selling it high 50's for the base variant, GS will release and be priced 75-80

Time will tell, hoping they do these right, it may be what I sell the GT350 for a couple model years in

That would be nice. I could see myself owning a C8 if they weren't priced too crazy.

I agree, the Corvette is the ‘workin mans’ exotic killer, if it’s anything but that GM messed up. It has to be affordable.

The base C7 is 55k. Do you really think they will sell the mid-engine C8, alongside the C7, for only 10k more. I seriously doubt it, they are definitely going to market it higher, probably like 80k+. The FE C7 will still be the working mans exotic killer, until they axe it(if they do?)

They may, it will be interesting to watch their strategy. They will probably continue the High end C7s that cost more then the C8, people will buy them as the last of the front engines corvettes. ZR1, maybe Z06, i doubt they will keep making any base C7s.

Porsche has been known to do this.

Common sense says it will be priced more than a C7.

Mid Engine Corvette Delayed Six Months Over Electrical Issue: Breaking

Quote:
The mid engine Corvette will not debut next month at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. That much you probably already know. But what you probably don’t know is why.

According to sources familiar with the matter speaking to GM Authority on the basis of anonymity, engineers have uncovered a major electrical issue with the future Corvette during the development process. From what we gather, the vehicle’s electrical system can’t carry the load necessary to support the necessary components.

To address the issue, engineers will need to re-engineer the vehicle’s electrical system. Naturally, changes made to the sports car will also need to be coordinated with suppliers involved in providing GM with the electrical components, as well as any associated equipment. The undertaking will delay the mid-engine Corvette project by six months.

Despite this, GM/Chevrolet should still be able to launch the mid engine Corvette for the 2020 model year, though a 2021 model year launch is not entirely off the table.

Stay tuned to GM Authority for more Corvette news and mid engine Corvette news.

GM Wants To Secure ‘Zora’ Moniker In The USA… Again

Quote:
General Motors has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to secure the ‘Zora’ nameplate.

Filed on December 12, 2018, and discovered by TheDrive, the application refers to “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles”, and could be used on the upcoming Chevrolet Corvette.

The ‘Zora’ name is believed to be tied to Zora Arkus-Duntov, former chief engineer of the original Corvette. He was the man responsible for bringing the supercar to life, and an avid supporter of a mid-engine Corvette. Arkus-Duntov even created a mid-engine Corvette prototype in 1964, called the XP-819, but for whatever reasons, it wasn’t approved for production.

While it would make sense to name the new Corvette after the late chief engineer, it’s also possible that General Motors simply wants to make sure that nobody else tries to use it.

This isn’t the first time that GM has filed a trademark for the ‘Zora’ moniker, as they previously wanted to secure it in mid-2014. Back then, they issued claims with about two-dozen intellectual property offices, such as the European Union, United Kingdom, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and, of course, the USPTO.

In the meantime, Chevy is putting the final touches on the new Corvette. The car is expected to debut this summer at a standalone event, after its unveiling was reportedly delayed by some six months due to issues with the alleged 48V electrical system.

According to the latest reports, it appears that the upcoming Corvette C8 could start at around $70,000, while the higher-performance versions, which are thought to arrive in 2-3 years, will easily exceed the $100,000 mark.

That price makes a certain amount of sense for a range topping model, but there have to be lower spec models shortly behind, if not concurrent to that.
