Wink For the single-layer DVD 'tight ar*es'!

Just for information, here's a few screen shots related to Sergei's 2008-2 'De-luxe' edition, allegedly:

1 To select the SpeedCam POIs, select the 'i' menu, to the left of the nav's map screen OR go to the information menu, in the first level of the main nav menu screen.
Choose your current location & then pick the 'Car' category & then 'Euro Speedcams':

Name: 5.jpg
Views: 1203
Size: 13.4 KB

Doing a search is likely to bring up a list of speedcams within that local area. Now go back to your map screen- just say 'map' if you have voice control, & make sure the 'i' icon is not crossed out.
You should now see the speedcams, below a zoom level of 5 miles.

2 Looking at the standard POI categories available:

Name: 4.jpg
Views: 1183
Size: 18.9 KB

The 'hotel' category allows more search options.

If a standard POI is selected, which has an 'i' in the search list next to the name of the POI, then additional information is available:
Name: 2.jpg
Views: 1161
Size: 20.9 KB
Name: 1.jpg
Views: 1168
Size: 22.5 KB

Now, concerning the burning of the data onto an ordinary (single layer) DVD+R or DVD+RW disc- it is relatively easy to keep just the info which is relevant to the UK (or for any other region), thereby reducing the amount of data which needs to be burned.

If you have the iso image file available & want to burn onto an 'ordinary' disc, then this is what you can do:

1 On a PC, use UltraIso to open the iso image file

2 Expand the folder structure, so you see the following:

Name: ultra1.gif
Views: 1163
Size: 42.8 KB

3 Now, just right click the FRE, GER, ITA & SPA folders & delete them, leaving just the ENG & ICONS folders within that lower 'ntcBeu...' folder.

4 Now, go to File -> Properties & you should see this:

Name: ultra2.gif
Views: 1187
Size: 47.0 KB

5 In the Date/Time tab, tick the Creation & Modification boxes & hit ok.

6 Go to Tools -> Burn CD/DVD image & burn onto a DVD+R or DVD+RW disc at a low speed (<x4).

7 You should now have a single layer disc!

If you save the UltraIso file now, the smaller iso file will be saved, wiping out the other language folders. Decide if you want to do this.

This method works fine, without editing any files, as long as it's done for countries making use of English as the nav default. If this isn't the case, a couple of other things will need to be done also- have a look here.

Thanks go to Mathmos for sorting out the original & best rundown on modifying your own nav discs.

All the best.

Viv

Of course! After some UltraISO modification I'm now using a single layer disc, works like a charm!

If I understand correctly, I can burn this to a single-layer DVD if I first remove the other languages, leaving just English?

Does removing the other languages (French, Spanish etc) also remove the maps and POI's for those countries (France, Spain etc)?

I still want to be able to travel across Western Europe using the SatNav, so can I still get away with single-layer?

Thanks in advance.

This method removes the map data for the countries deleted.

If you want the full EU maps then a DL disk will be required.

I've got a 'Navigation DVD Can't Be Read' error when I was just sat parked. Is this my DVDs? My Burn? My download?

I ejected the disk, put it back in and it started working okay.

Using Sergeis.

This is incorrect. All map data and POIs from the deleted languages are intact. Tested it myself. Got a single layer DVD with GER, ITA, SPA and FRE deleted. Can still find hotels in Italy, and the map is highly detailed.
The maps are still there even if you delete those folders. I presume it's just the voice instructions.

As KillDork says, deleting the other language folders actually does not affect the availability of POIs across the countries covered by the disc.

This will not cause a problem, as long as your particular country's default language is not one of the deleted folders. The default language on the 'Sergei De-luxe' edition is set to English.

Each language folder is self-contained. ie all the routes & POIs are available within that specific language folder, irrespective of which country you happen to be geographically located.

The size of the disc has increased because of the way in which the POI categories have been replicated for each language folder.

It looks like one reason for this is to allow greater POI language specificity for each of the ENG, FRE, GER, ITA & SPA languages on the disc.

Using Sergeis.
Possible dirty discy, read errors caused by too high burn speed, physical drive vibration, poor media, poor burner or combinationings.

As long as workings now, worries not.

When I put my new disk in (thanks Serg ) it said it found and updated version and to turn off and restart in 5 minutes.

3 hours later is just says insert nav disk and when I eject it and put it back in nothing happens.

I am guessing it doesn't like my media (and it's not from Tesco )

How long did it take your systems to sort itself out?

Try different media, try burning the image using DVD decrypter. Make sure you burn at the slowest speed, and that your PC is not doing anything else.

If that fails try another dvd burner, Don't need to buy one, just try a friends. If you don't know anyone, get someone else on the forum to burn you one.

If you still struggling, send me a PM.

One other thing to all of you, Make sure you remove the DVD when you take your car to the stealers, just put the original back

I have a similar problem, deleted the folders with magiciso and burnt a single layer DVD with imgburn at *2 and a second one at *1, the navigation works fine but I get nothing when trying to search the information

Anyone any ideas?

Slightly different issue here as many speed cameras are missing from the POI. My earlier 2008-01 disk has all the local ones but this disk is hardly showing any at all....

I am using DVD-R. But that's the same type for the one that's working, so that's unlikely.
