Today was a big day. I officially became car-less.
Me too! This morning, I separated from my E320 which I owned for 3 years.

That was not really the car for me but I certainly got attached to it nonetheless. The new owner also seems very taken by the car.

It's a weird feeling, eh? I really loved the Mazda at times, and felt it was exactly what I wanted - solid performance, comfortable, reasonably fun to drive, etc. Had I not been disappointed in its reliability, which might be a product of my own high expectations since I came from a bullet-proof Honda, I would've kept it for a long time. But I know the BMW will be 10 times greater, and will keep me really happy. So onward and upward, and the Mazda's new owner is really excited for the car too.

Funny how we can be attached to, and give emotions to, these hunks of metal. They don't have feelings. They don't know if we like them or hate them. But we do it anyway.

yeah, right now, I'm feeling as if somebody had died; I know it's crazy, but it's true

at least when I sold my Civic (which I drove 10 years), I went straight to the Benz which pampered me with A/C, electric everything, etc.

will be taking the bus tonight for the first time in a while...

Yep, same feeling.

Had an '89 Civic LX before my Mazda. It belonged to my grandmother, and when I got it in 1999, it had maaaaybe 35-38,000 miles on it. I am not kidding.

The car only had two speakers in the sound system, had about as much power as a good riding lawnmower, and was so tiny and lacking in any safety equipment - but got incredible gas mileage and was perfect around town. My brother took it in 2004 when I got my Mazda, he and his now ex-girlfriend subsequently crashed it twice, but it still runs as an errand car when needed.

these wait times seem so high...

I ordered my car on May 17th, It was assembled soon after, and it's already been on a boat over here for about 5 days or so...the salesperson said it will be ready for delivery around June 29th, give or take a few days......, making it a roughly 5 week wait..

is he off base?

you are probably going from bremerhaven straight to the east coast, so no it's not off base. You just got a production slot that was close. My car is coming from S Africa so my wait sucks all the way to the west coast. (One of the longest trips for bimmers).

congrats on the short wait time btw. Maybe chime back in when u get your car, and tell me how the turbo lag is. Our cars will almost certainly have the new crappy software. Let us know!

It all depends on production slots, and then a few boat details.

The dealer that I ordered from had no slots available for 3+ weeks. I ordered on April 29, and originally wasn't scheduled for production until week 23, the first week of June. Every single slot that the dealer had prior to that for a 335 was already booked with a customer. In the end, they were able to move it up a week somehow, so I started production on May 26.

In your case, you got a kickin' production slot, either because the dealer had a free one or because they traded another dealer for one. If you are on a boat already, around June 29th might be a little bit quick, since the car has to get to Chicago, but might not be that far off. Do you know what boat you are on? I'd plan on about a week more, and that would be very quick regardless.

The phone system told me I had no scheduled production date until the car was literally in production. Say "customer relations" and speak with a live person, and see if they can even give you an estimated build week. That'll help.

Just don't keep calling back to see if it has changed. Because I think that tends to annoy them. Not that I'd know from experience.

ahh yeah, i remember him saying he was "trading slots" with another chicago dealer, he said they already had a car on order, but just had to configure it to their own specifications, makes sense now. i'm not sure what boat i'm on , but i think the boat is coming into south carolina?

I just found out my car is due at port on 6/23. Seems my car is coming straight from S Africa which everybody on these boards said doesn't happen. I should be getting my car sooner than expected!

So I ordered my e90 335xi May 25th, the only way I seem to find out any info is through my SA. after staring at Awaiting Transport for 2 weeks , I find out my baby is on a ship due in port on the 30th . According to my SA I will have the car 1 or second week of July. I have the VIN and have entered it in on every possible site, nothing works. the tracking guide has alot of info but its no good if the GD damn website doesn't work.

Hopefully I will post photos soon

Honestly, didn't ask. I was just glad to hear that it wasn't sitting in Queue anymore, but thanks for the info. You just gave me something to do every time I have a free minute.... I never thought I would care so much about tracking this thing

Gimme my car!

Good thing im in NY, hopefully wont have to wait that long after docking.

In-transit

It only takes a day to get from the factory to the dock. I think the phone message mentions this, but the BMW website doesn't. Sounds like you had a short stay on the dock ( the phone message is ....at dock awaiting transport... or some thing like that).

Just a little update:

Bought my plane ticket for PCD today. It's start to feel "real," as if it is actually on its way to being mine, instead of this mythical thing I dream about and find pictures of and talk about all the time.

That might also be because I just got the check from my bank that will serve as my down payment. Which was like "whoooooo that's a damn lot of money." I called my bank today to clarify something, and the guy on the phone goes, "oh yeah, we talked yesterday, you are the BMW guy! Congrats again!"

Enjoy your time at the Performance Center. They take you out in their cars so you can let go a little without worrying about the break-in. Plus you get the drive home to get to know your car...... Maybe they will trade you up to a M3 or M5 by mistake
