It's all smoke and mirrors.

I believe it's about what we all do for a living. Quite obviously a bunch of us are not comedians.

A friend of mine had that very job. He was a tour production assistant for a bluesy-metal rock band back in the early '80s when they were touring. Their stage show featured scantily clad dancing girls on one of their signature hits. My pal's job was to travel 1 or 2 towns ahead of the tour and recruit girls from strip clubs. And acquire weed. He'd roll into town with a pocket full of $100 bills and have a blast, courtesy of the band.

The doctors took me off the IV infusion at about the time that Amazon shifted from UPS to USPS for Prime shipping, so the driver did not have any stops here for a few months. He was making a delivery for someone else on our dead end road one afternoon when I was coming home from work, and he stopped as I was getting out of my car to say how happy he was to see me alive. When he didn't see the Thursday IV deliveries, he assumed that I had passed away since it was supposed to be a lifetime IV treatment!!!

When I started with UPS in Germany, I was a helper for the driver who had the huge Nürnberg pedestrian zone on his route. He could only drive on the cross streets which were several blocks apart, so I would load up a huge two-wheeler with packages and work my way down the pedestrian zone from business to business delivering packages and picking up new ones. Then we'd meet at the next crossing and I'd load up again. I lost 30lbs in the two months I was a helper before I got my own route.
One day I had a COD package for an address in what is known as The Wall in Nürnberg. It's basically the red light district. The COD was a couple hundred DM, which was pricey. I went to the address and the door was locked. When I rang the bell, a...um...lady of the house came to a window to see what I wanted. I showed her the COD package and asked if she knew the person it was addressed to. She said yes, grabbed the package, and disappeared inside, closing the window. I was like, oh shit, now what do I do? I waited there for a few minutes trying to decide what to do when she came back to the window with the money and thanked me for delivering. That's just one of many really unusual deliveries I had in my time with UPS.
