The drastic difference in price there kinda has me leaning towards the major vendors driving up the price due to supply shortages. Thoughts?
This is absolutely insane! I ordered the same kit from FCP in Nov '21 and paid:

Subtotal $1756.08
Shipping $22.99
Tax $166.81
Total $1945.88

Now the same kit is $1k more before taxes and shipping!?? I was crying about the price hike in Nov.

Weird you aren't arguing that if you want to own a N54 you don't have to cry about maintenance prices (including injectors) like you do on a lot of other threads...

If I needed a new injector(s).....I would buy them, even though the prices are crazy high. Unfortunately, it costs a lot to maintain these cars right.

Yep of course the good thing is that N54 has a big community with a lot of help and DIY online, despite of course some irreductible expenses (like failing injectors)...

I believe it's possible to own & maintain one, without bleeding all the bank account, as long as you have a secondary car/or it's not your daily (in case of troubles) and you have a place to take care of it and trying to do stuff by yourself. I like it so much so far, fantastic and so fun to drive

I wouldn't even say it's that hard. I am a college student with a part time job and no extra car, I am able to afford it with money to spare. I save and buy parts before they break, and do all the work myself. Though I am very lucky my dad has a lift, that makes things a lot easier.

Better knock on wood.......the next thing you know the LPFP, HPFP, water pump, thermostat, transmission, turbos, or something else is going to unexpectedly fail, and leave you scrambling to get the car fixed ASAP so you can make it to school/work.

These cars really do have a lot of components that can (and will) just fail on you...no matter how good you keep up on maintenance.

I definitely expect my BMW to randomly break more than other cars yes. If you rely on your single BMW car to go to work and all then knock on wood for you...

Like I'm talking about non common issues. For example a random module decides to fry itself or a hose that never breaks has suddenly broke and now you're stuck with no transport. That's when I use the bus. It's true there's a lot of components that can go wrong which we haven't learned about yet because that will be in the future and time will tell.

I don't know man, I've had this car four years and it has never once left me on the side of the road. I replace things before they break, simple as that. This car has actually been very reliable for me.

Gotta admit I haven't either with both cars (1st got totalled) over about 4 years now to. And I try to preventative maintenance but one day I know something will break that will either leave me stranded or take more than 1 day to fix and get the part while the car is undriveable.

But I still expect it because that's what these cars are. You can preventive maintenance all you like if it's a completely new issue that has arrived with time and decomposing plastic or some kind of material only then we will know for example. The amount of components in this car it's just why I expect it VS a more simple car.

If you stay ontop of your shit, get to the bottom of issues as soon as they pop up, open your hood every few days to take a peek I don't see why these cars would be less reliable than any other euro car. It's usually the owners that don't give a shit about their car and treat it maintaince wise like a civic that are usually left stranded

I've never been stranded by the N54.
141K miles, but I'm completely stock.
To my knowledge, original water pump and 4/6 original injectors.
Unfortunately, the awful roads in GA have led to more than a few bent wheels and ruined tires.

I too have never been left stranded, but you certainly will be if you don't change that water pump asap

Funny guy. So I am planning a drive from LA to Vegas in May with my 08 e93. Currently at 52000 miles, original water pump. When do you think is a good time to change it? I really don't want to get stranded in the high desert.

Also running 4x index 5 and 2x index 9 injectors. Recently purchased this vehicle. Prices at ~$270 a few months ago are looking really nice compared to today. Don't think that I will preventatively change injectors.

Honestly it's difficult to say. Some people have had their pumps going for a while before they had to change it. While some had to buy like 2-3 within 60k miles.

Maybe that's changed but that was my last conclusion when looking up the subject ~ a year ago. I was debating on replacing it or not on my last car, had original pump still at 100k miles. But yeah, since I knew I was going on a lengthy trip I just went ahead and changed it to make sure so I'd definitely do the same in your scenario.

Also depends on how they break my actual pump was fine but the plastic cracked and it was weeping and eventually started pissing. Sometimes they live a slower death and throw codes, sometimes they just go

I think you'll be good for that trip, I'm at 58k on the original water pump and it's been great. I've had to do the electric bleed procedure multiple times due to constant coolant hoses leaking and it's still been great.

I’m a gambling man…
Plus I figure I’ll get a code in the DME if it starts to fail.
At this point I want to see how long it lasts!

Good luck, I've had two water pumps fail one on my N52 and one on my N54, no codes or warning. Sometimes you get lucky and get advance warning and other times you don't. I had two failures without warning.

Mine was leaking when I bought the car, no codes whatsoever,

If it fails completely your engine could be toast literally, lol.
