The way I look at it, the era of pure ICE sports cars is closing, and 6MT has been niche for decades. ANYTHING we get from here forward is a precious bonus, and I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. BMW's gonna follow the money and I can hardly blame them for that. |

Again just my opinion. I guess I’m old school and not tethered to BMW if I can’t get a coupe/sedan w/ a MT & RWD. I’ll buy used or head to Porsche. |

Lol probably too late already. My dealer is in CT. We have the first 3 M2 CS allocations. They expect a max of 3. We did that awhile ago. Also have the first 2 m5 tourings, but I don’t think those will be that hard to get.

I'm pretty sure personnel from two companies are/were fighting back and forth for whether or not such combo should happen, because BMW wanted M-DCT gone for logistics and cost reasons. Toyota bringing it back because it is a better performer probably does not bode good image for BMW, and opens up the possibility of a Supra variant besting M2s with torque converters.

Wishful thinking perhaps

The Supra with the S58 will still be a lot lighter than the M4 CSL and how much is the M4 CSL? USD 140k. It will be at the performance level of a Nismo GTR & Porsche GT3 and how much is the Nismo or a GT3? Supra with the S58 will be the ultimate S58 and I do hope it eventualises. The downside is it will probably be marketed as a limited-edition GRMN (I think these limited performance editions are bullshit, should be made available to anyone who are interested). |

You can believe that you can get something for nothing. You can believe that you can drop a motor that has 80+ more HP and 40 more TQ into a chassis without extra work. You can, in effect, believe that Lotus and Porsche are bad at what they do and that the Supra chassis is some miracle platform (even though it's really just a modified CLAR platform).
You can even believe when BMW puts the S58 into thier own cars, they become heavy and expensive, but when BMW puts it into the Supra it would be light and cheap. You can believe that, even though BMW abolished their own in-house, well-loved DCT for pure economic reasons, it would make financial sense for them to resurrect it and put it into a single low-volume partnered car. The engineer in me believes none of it. Sounds like fanboy wishes and unicorns. I'm extremely skeptical. I do not think the world works like that. But, and I mean this sincerely, keep on believing it, because it would be great if you are right, and I'd gladly eat crow (and buy it) if such a Supra appeared. Just because I'm skeptical doesn't mean everyone else has to be. |

Yup, no 6MT would be a deal breaker for me too. And my G87 is unintentionally gonna end up almost looking like a CS anyway so I will definitely be a poseur like a MF lol.

“Slow” car fast anyone??
I had a blast driving my old e36 m3 around before selling, same with my current new to me e46 m3. Again, I’m old school. I’ll take an analog car that’s not laying down ridiculous EV 0-60s (putting aside the aforementioned immorality of an EV purchase). But I will continue to give bmw props for making some MT RWD and still have a modicum of hope that something great will continue to come from M for us old souls. If not the G80, G87 &/or Supra will likely be the last new M cars in my family before seeking alternatives. I’m slowly heading backwards in time to older M car iterations & loving it; A 2002, e24, or buying back my e36 M3 are all viable options. Aside from BMW, GR Corolla is a great option IMO (blasphemous to many Bimmerpost members, I know). Lots of Toyota hate. My bad for going off on a tangent. |
