I was based in Germany from early ‘68 to early ‘69. One day when we were
convoying to an alert area we came across an overturned beer truck. Suds everywhere. It was enough to bring tears to our eyes, but it did smell good.

Venom of fire ants can save an unlucky skydiver's life.

In 1999, skydiver Joan Murray's parachute malfunctioned, causing her to fall 14,500 feet. Her backup parachute opened at 700 feet, but it quickly deflated and she continued to plummet towards the ground at 80mph. Miraculously, Murray survived the ordeal thanks to the fact that she landed directly onto a mound of fire ants. The only possible solution that the doctors have found is that the intense shock of being stung over 200 times by the fire ants released a surge of adrenaline which kept her heart beating.
