I've run events in race groups with open passing before, but it's not the norm, and I am fine with point by's, especially if there are a lot of cars out there. I usually run in the advanced groups, but I don't mind someone riding with me, as I often take passengers/friends, but I do like to get my money's worth as far as seat time.
You've gotta make sure you let the organizers at Central California Chapter know about your prior experience and see if you can be placed in the A or B group, otherwise it's going to be a "long" day for you.

C is not so bad when they run a seperate D group... When C and D drivers are combined, it's a long day for everyone with any kind of experience....
Last time this happened, we had about 15 cars stuck behind this 18 year old kid in a E46 who was learning how to drive... not how to drive fast, how to drive period !!

Based on his stated experience...C would be a VERY long day. Trust me.

right on. i'd never go solo at a BMWCCA event. there are way cheaper ways to get open track time.

FWIW. mike-y i think the real value of going to BMWCCA is there are less cars (cuz its so expensive)

well, if there are less cars it may be worth it. I will contact the central chapter and see if they will consider putting me in one the higher groups as a first timer. Thanks for the info guys.

By the way the Roval (CA SPeedway) on May 30-31st has run groups
A
B/C combined
D

This is good news for someone like me in the C class with a little bit of experience not to be running with the D guys... Probably bad news for one with more experience than me in the B class having to run with the C class

They said they can start me in group B and move me up or down from there, so I think I'll sign up for this one (buttowillow on the 29th).

Ok, for Buttonwillow and Cal Speedway, where should we set our meeting/parking point?

I don't remember a 335 limping that day so I'll say no. j/k

this was the SD chapter's 2 day at button in July of last year. My first big track event ever. I was such a jerk to my instructors that weekend. Now, I'm less of a jerk to instructors. That lineup is Dascamel, Ramos, me, then some other dudes.

I see my name on the list. I think my name got added today. Also got the confirmation for button today.

I've got Falkens to discard and Bridgestones to mount. I also ordered some brake pads from HP Autowerks. (my tech had the talk with me about new pads every 5k miles may not last forever) I'll probably change pads Saturday am. Also, I think I may have a hookup on tech inspection. I'll have to read the fine print but I'll let you know.

Anyone know how the garage offering works at Cal Speedway? I'm looking at the BMWCCA garage map and it appears that it's first come first serve. How do you guys work it?

Don't think so, I think you were at the spring BMW CCA event. We were parked on the other side, closest to the entrance.

that's right. first come first serve. 2 per garage door. I like the row after the main garage building. Almost as far from the enterance as possible. It's not very populated there and its very close to the class room / lunch.
