A shop in NY that can code non I drive cars for this.

I will sell all the parts needed to get this done. Lmk if your interested. All soldering is done and ready to get coded but be sure someone can do this
For you. Dealerships aren't used to this stuff so it's not really there fault if they aren't sure of the tasks or in my case maybe my 08 135 isn't capable of it. I don't know for sure but now I wasted labor time and part money. I've given up
Man it is doable regardless of year and the TCU unit is what the car uses for Bluetooth from factory, which is completely different from what you're trying to do here. Your dealer is CLUELESS as to what you're trying to do, which is I why I previously mentioned you need to take it to a shop that is able to code your radio - most shops that deal with european cars are able to do this. read throughout the thread and see the last person who got it working (McClane) and he can probably give you specifics as to what the shop coded into his car. The one thing I can tell you is that you're not programming the DME here, you are programming your radio to enable the bluetooth capability of the mulf2.

Don't give up, you've done the hardest part, the rest is finding a shop with people who know what they are doing. The reason BMW can't help you is that they are probably following manual instructions and the OEM bluetooth uses the TCU instead of the MULF2. You need someone who thinks outside the box and understands what's being done here.

+1 Don't give up. Bimmertech who has coded for one of the earlier/successful posters has a guy in the NJ area apparently.

Thanks guys. I'll try to pm bimmertech

I explained what I did and what I needed in great detail. He told me there's zero chance for it to work. I know it can but don't think I'm close to anyone who can do the coding. Hopefully I find someone.

Back from the dead... you need an OPS head to code your radio, that's the problem in your coding issue. A regular coding cable cannot be used as it cannot "talk" to the OEM HU, only to the iDrive CCC/CIC.

No dealer in the USA is capable of activating the Bluetooth section of the MULF-Hi.

There is a BimmerTech installer in NJ that could help you. Contact BimmerTech for details.

Technic,

Are you trying to say that this retrofit can not be coded "at home" unless you have CCC/CIC? Or are you stating that in the rare case that your MULF2-Hi is not coded for Bluetooth, that you will need someone with an OPS cable to code it.

I ask because there have been multiple success stories on here by simply coding SA644 into the VO and writing a blank man file. Do all these people by coincidence have CCC/CIC?

Yes... or they have an OPS head, or a custom-cable.

You can code a regular head unit.
You can't code an MULF2 though.

I contacted Bimmertech via email and they claimed that my unit (2009 335i with iDrive but no premium and no bluetooth) can be retrofitted with Bluetooth for 400 bucks.

Claimed I did not need to solder or cut any wires. I believe the coding can be done remotely…has anyone utilized Bimmertech for this and had an easy experience with their kit? Made it sound simpler than all the wire running that has been described here.

I will attach a photo of the box in my trunk with the bluetooth logo…it seems to be the same unit that was posted in the middle of this thread somewhere.

MULF-Hi remotely-coded for Bluetooth by BimmerTech, hardware (Mic and BT antenna) installed by me in a X6: http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620554

BimmerTech kit ($400) will include all the hardware required for your particular car.

Well, I'm not sure if I have a "custom" cable (purchased it off eBay) but I was just able to change my VO (added $644) and coded the car with a blank man file. After letting the car go to sleep, I came back and the Phone icon now shows up on my radio with all the bluetooth options. It's not able to find a phone yet since I haven't added the antenna but it "tries". Also, Voice Entry is now enabled in English.

I'll send an update after I pick up my parts on Friday and install them.

One thing I am a bit unclear about is when you install the Mic and Antenna for Bluetooth, do you have to run those cables from the trunk to the front map light area, or is there a cable already run that you need to connect to?

I would like to not have to tear apart the roof lining and all that to do this installation. Sounds like it wasn't too difficult though...

Did you tell BimmerTech that there is Voice Control in your car? If so, what did they say about re-using the existing Mic in your FZD (roof console) and coding it to be of dual use (Bluetooth and Voice Control)?

That way you just have to plug the BT antenna into the MULF-Hi and that's it.

And just use a short 6" smb to smb cable and leave the antenna in the trunk tucked under the MULF2.
There is a 10m range so fine doing this.

Hmm, very interesting. I think I mentioned I had voice control, but not sure if they planned to code it for dual use. I will check in with them again about this. That would be ideal!

thanks for the help…now after reading your post it makes me want to get a rearview camera as well!

I just emailed them and they said, "I was in good hands." They are being quite vague about what exactly I am getting, just saying they will give me exactly what I need.

Bummer, that part of the trunk of my 2012 128 August 2011 production is empty.

I suspect that means I don't have the MULF2 and the retrofit in my car will be more expensive.

Well, I can confirm that all you need to program the retrofit is an eBay cable and ncwexpert. I simply added $644 to my VO, then coded the car with a blank .man file. Ncwexpert complained that it couldn't code 2MULF but I ignored that, let the car go to sleep, came back and plugged in the BT antenna, VOILA!

I'm able to pair my phone, make and receive calls, and sync contacts. I can only receive voice at this time since I haven't hooked up the MIC yet but I don't suspect that will be an issue. Once complete, I will post a full howto since all the information is scattered.

So the good news is, this retrofit can be done for $50-60 if you have an eBay cable (or know someone who does) and you're willing to run a few cables!!! There is no need to buy a new MULF2-Hi, Combox, or pay for "advanced" programming.
