In general, will the dealership give me crap about having a OCC installed? =P

If they do, then never go back again. Seriously this would be like voiding your warranty for changing dirty oil filter or getting rid of their crappy run flat tires.

Are you going to let some dealer dictate how you protect your $50,000 investment? I am sorry, but I will not. I bought this car to enjoy and there is no dealer that will steal that joy from me. An OCC is healthy for a car with enormous blow-by and if you go without one then be prepared for oil vapor related issues like a ruined intercooler, coated pipes, horrible carbon buildup, etc. This is just a fact.

I believe it is the first one listed:

Blow-by vent hose and left end - 11157553949 - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...73&hg=11&fg=40
Right side connector to vent hose - 13717560227 - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...84&hg=13&fg=20

To your question, absolutley not! I mentioned not going back to the dealer as a good goal, meaning try to learn your own car and fix things and maintain yourself. Working on the car is one of my favorite things to do.

Catch can is a must. The cyclone seperators just don't do their job well enough.

Scott,

We are currently finishing the update on the N54 kits. Once we have them complete, we will be happy to swap the one you have now for the updated part.

We will just need you to return the original one so we can remove it from circulation.

I will have our Sales Team enter in a Warranty Consideration order for you, so that when the update is complete, we can make sure you get one.

Thank you for your business.

The one I got (bought unused/uninstalled) from someone on this board, did not include the retention clamp on the PCV outlet.

The company wants me to provide a CC# for 'their freight' on shipping a new one (and as they make no mention of them paying for the shipping the old fitting back ) it appears I am expected to pay for that freight also - HUH?

Anybody else have to pay for this ?
Their return 'form' also indicates a 20 percent restocking fee is applied to all returns.

Not to mention this thing did not come with even 1 page of instructions.. :/

No, but I did write one of the Riss about 2 years ago. The quality here on the BSH is far superior to the Riss OCC I had.

I think my install took a little bit longer than yours since I'm still finding my way around the engine bay. I had a couple hang ups.

The first one was with the brass elbow facing the wrong direction when screwed all the way in. I thought about just locking it down with blue thread locker but it was still too loose for comfort in the proper position. After dicking around with the engine cover and cowling long enough I made it work, but there is a little bit of stress on the connector from the hose pushing off the firewall. Time will tell if the seal there is good set up like this and I'll check for oil next time I take the covers off. I still haven't noticed even the slightest amount of oil vapors on the dipstick. I understand that it will take a substantial amount of time before there is even enough oil in the can to reach the dipstick, but i figured some of the mist might have transferred onto the stick.

My second hangup occurred after I had everything all the way disassembled and discovered I was only sent two out of the four O rings. As you could imagine after getting this far into the install and finding out that I was missing essential parts was pretty frustrating so I sent a nasty-gram off to jlevi who forwarded the complaint to BSH.

I locked up all the parts I had taken off in my car, and had a friend drive me to the nearest autopart store where I was able to buy O rings that worked for about a dollar.

Got back and finished the install and everything else went smoothly. A couple days later I received a call from Philip of BSH, who was courteous and tactful despite the fairly shitty mood I was in when I wrote that email, and offered me a 20% discount on anything in their store to make up for the error.

I don't mean to put this product in a negative light, however. The build quality is superb and all of the seals are tight. The can looks like solid OEM quality. BSH customer service and product support was great too. Despite the minor hiccups I am satisfied with the product as a whole.

Maybe I'll do a more thorough long term review a few months down the road.

Locking clip: screw diameter and thread size

I installed my BSH OCC yesterday - many thanks to Former_Boosted_IS for this DIY and some other timely assistance.

However, while BSH did include the locking clip in my kit, they neglected to include the screw to attach the clip. No, it didn't fall on the floor somewhere. It just wasn't in the kit.

I've had to install the kit sans clip - which is OK according to posts made by BSH in this very thread - but I'd still prefer to have the clip on there.

Can anybody tell me:

- the diameter of the locking clip screw?
- the thread size of the screw?

Thanks!

Did you email BSH? I am sure they can get it to your house in a few days.
