Haven't had time to experiment with my car (do this with the windows open if you don't have a willing victim) but all previous BMWs had a feature called "double locking" where if you lock the door with the key rather than the fob, it cannot be opened from the inside. Also in past models, you could have your keyfob reprogrammed to always double-lock (it's a different signal). From my cursory reading of the manual, it looks like a keyfob lock now performs a double lock by default (I haven't tested). Pressing the console button to lock always sends a non-double-lock signal, since presumably someone is in the car who will need to get out in an emergency.

Double locking prevents smash and unlock theft (same reason the lock pin descends below the surface of the door sill and can't be pulled up like in old cars) and also disables the console lock/unlock button. If you put a really big valuable item that won't fit through the windows in the backseat of your car and then double lock, no matter what a thief does, it can't be stolen.

It's a good excuse for me to hug my wife when we're walking to the car and we reach the passenger side first.

That's just misinformation.

You just have it hold it on it for like a second and it locks. Hold it in place longer and it will close all windows and the moonroof.

That is standard on all Six-cylinder cars (apart from the Canadian 323i apparently) and is called "Cruise Control with brake function". Four cylinder cars only get regular Cruise Control, so no braking function.
Also four-cylinder cars cannot upgrade to Adaptive Cruise Control.

Okay, I would guess this is in the manual but I don't have it with me so:

Is there a way to get the Nav to start up in the "Map facing North" setting so I don't have to scroll down to it each time? In other words when I start my car it does the warning thing then goes to the i-Drive main menu. I click to the right to sellect Navigation then I have to click down a few items to get to the Map I want.

Instead of pushing right to go to "Navigation" each time, HOLD the controller to the right for approx. 2 seconds. It will go to your last nav screen (even if you've turned off the car in between).

Same deal for "Entertainment" or "Phone." It saves you making the same old menu choices every time.

EDIT - I should add, you can hit the voice command button and say "Map facing north" anytime, too. Personally, I prefer "Map, direction of travel."

You have to alternate keys!

While in the ignition, the key gets recharged.

My BMW advisor told me this today. My key #2 battery level was too low and they had some diffculties to reprogram it.

Correct me if I am wrong but DTC and DSC are always on UNLESS you push the button to turn them off

Only if you don't have CA. CA fobs have a regular battery that you replace every so often.

-people are amazed with the cupholders, and tend to play with them so much that they break or get stuck (i have had to replace 2 passenger side cupholders

-do not leave passenger side cupholder in extended position if a passenger will be getting into you car, becasue most likely they will not see it and they will smash their knee on it.

-key in trunk thing does not work, i had to call my dad to drive 30 min to bring my extra key to me (he called me an idiot)

-first aid kit has everything but band-aids (at least mine never had any)

-someone can steal your car with a skeleton key ( my car was missing one day and i found out that my friend stole my skeleton kay (and he wont give it back) and used the valet key in the glovebox to start the car and steal it for 3 hours

-car can play MP3 cd's (i didnt know until a month or so ago)

-locking people inside the car is funny, i do it all the time if someone takes too long to get out

-under the rear seats there are these air canister looking things connected to the seatbelt holder thing. (no clue what they are for)

-is there any way to turn off that center vent on top of the center console that always fogs up the window? without turning off the regular vents?

-having the clutch depressed at a stop is actually burning up the clutch (clutch plates never release from each other completely, there is always a bit of friction between them)

-with CC on if you reach too high of a sustained RPM the same little thing and chime will appear but to upshift

-with CC on, if you depress the clutch for a long enough time, it will rev up the engine and then tell you that you left CC on.

-anything else?

In a non I-Drive car, you can type in the exact radio station you want rather than scanning to it. Just press "M" for the manual setting and you can see that only certain numbers appear above the preset buttons allowing you to dial directly.

I think you should lock your friend in the car until he gives you back the key.

Not sure if you can do this on E9x models, but on the E46 when you turn the ignition on to setting 1, whilst the obc is displaying miles remaining to next service, press the knob which you use to adjust the clock. This will then display the next due date for your brakes to be serviced.

I was told by the dealer that if you use the skeleton key and the extra fob unit together for an extended amount of time; that the car should read it as the emergency key/stolen car and the car will kill over. Haven't tested and not sure if I want to.

What happens if you were on vacation somewhere, lose a fob, need the emergency key to get you back home. It would kill the car halfway home? Seems like a contradiction of what the thing was designed for IMO.. Don't know though (and hopefully never have to use that thing)..
