There seems to be a lot of confusion in which cables work with which cars... and this is the only thing holding me back from getting a cable.
cable for E9X pre 07: ...? cable for E9X post 07: ...? |

I'm curious if this will work with the e9x platform, I found it on e60 forum...Would be pretty cool for 06 since we don't have "Welcome Lights" |

I have disabled light errors on my car because I am using a light control module that has cornering lights but my car doesn't have them.. so far i get an error every once in a while and it will go away.. should be the same concept for fog light errors.

so if i have a pre march 07 e92, the cable you use should work as well for me? I was thinking of just using the same cable as the BT tools but no one confirm if that will work...

If I understand it, this is what you need for a cable, and please correct me if I'm wrong:
pre-03/07 build: KCan cable http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-E...ht_4223wt_1360 Will also need a USB to serial connector if you are going to use a usb port on your computer if you don't have a serial port on your computer. 03/07 build and later: DCan http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQ...#ht_7117wt_981 Heartpumper cable (the usb to OBD that says KLine and DCan) should work for all cars, both pre and post 03/07 builds. Some of the ebay cables may not work with later (03/07+) cars as it isn't made for DCan cars. I can't certify any of the cables I linked will work, but I think they will for the stated cars. Honestly, I'm glad someone finally posted info using DIS/GT1, etc. on this forum as I've been trying to get info on this from bimmerforums for months and they don't have a lot of info for e90's as that forum is more focused on older bmw's. |

This picture below is useful for people with the latest BMW models which got Ethernet available on the OBD2 plug, BMW uses pin8 to enable this Ethernet connection, unfortunately this pin is (was) also used as 2nd K-Line for a couple of older BMW models, we do connect the K-Line to pin8 as well to be fully backward compatible to those older models, if you have such a new model with Ethernet and experience "communication disturbed" as soon as the diagnostic begins we advice you to remove pin8 by soldering it out. http://www.osefactory.com/EBAY/INPA_DCAN2/pin8.JPG |

I have a suspicion that neither BT cable will work, either because of the pinout or the VIN-checking code in the EEPROM. It would be nice if someone could give a BT cable a shot, as I'd rather just purchase one cable with a nice piece of datalogging software as a bonus.

For '11 e70 this cable would be the correct one then right? Just sent donation for your time compiling the diy and necessary programs to make it happen. Hopefully I can get dvd in motion working soon! Last edited by nood1es; 11-12-2010 at 02:19 PM.. |
