You will still get taxed depending on how much the value is if you mark as gift. You need your mate to mark the stuff less than 1000AUD including freight. Tax will be about 20-25%. Customs tax of about 12% then add 10% GST on the total.

Under value your goods is the key, some suppliers will do it at your own risk but it does pose a problem when you want to insure the item for it's original value. I did pay additional cost like customs/quarantine clearance and customs agent broker fees. |

I have been looking at importing too. If the cost is under $1000 no duty or gst will be charged. One supplier advised he would be happy to show total value under $1000 for $3000 worth of gear. Here is a link to Aust Customs for anyone considering offshore purchases. http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=5549

My local guys are great. I just had them paint and install the Aero Lip front spoiler. It was around $200 for this. To paint and install a full msport rear bumper would be approx $500. I'm sure I could get it done a little cheaper elsewhere but the quality of their work is absolutely superb. The OEM parts fit like a glove - not always the case with some of the imported kits. Make sure you do your research and confirm the fitment quality of the kit. Some are fibreglass, some composite plastic - generally plastic is lighter and fits better. Happy modding

Thanks for sharing. Means you need to do your homework to.
An Eisemann quad exhaust here is $A3100. From the US it is $A2250 plus shipping etc. Quote for shipping so far is $A721 (sounds way too high to me) plus customs clearance costs etc - might be cheaper to get it here!
