My e90 335i completely stock except for BBS forged wheels was the equal of any stock M3 at a smallish tight road race course, Gateway International.

Yeah see that's what I thought too since you air down in the offroading world to gain more traction.

But my own experience on the track confirms what these pages say:

It really is trial and error. I aim for 40 psi hot on all corners which means I have different cold pressures on each corner.

Btw ultrasport Steve, this is "Spidee" from Audizine. One of your B7 A4 track junkies. I knew I'd find you in a track oriented thread.

I'm on this thread to see how the e90 335i does on track as well. My current 05' audi a4 was recently sandwiched in an accident. I should be getting the car back in a few weeks and trading it in for a taste of the "dark side".

Now that we know some of you are going on track with them, what are your approximate time laps on Laguna Seca and Thunderhill?
Hey man...havent taken the 335i on Laguna/Thunderhill yet...still dont have dedicated track wheels/tires yet. I took it to Reno Fernley..but didnt time myself..kinda frowned upon at ACNA. Sorry about your car...we can link up anytime you want and I can give you a white knuckle test drive.. :-)

My next track event will probably be ACNA at Sears Point/Infineon...after I get some R compounds.

Lemme know. You can pm me for my cell phone.

40 psi hot is what I shoot for as well.

Hey guys is there any driving school events (not races) that still go to Laguna? Now that BMWCCA doesn't do it I haven't been able to get back up there but I love that track.
Thanks

Hey man, I know you're a good driver so I trust your thoughts on equipment.

Why shoot for 40 all around?

1) I was told by and instructor to raise it to get near 50 hot
2) Wouldn't you want to put more in the fronts to tame the inherent understeer?

I'll hit you up as soon as the date comes closer for me to pick up a 335i. I'd like to feel the ride quality of the PSS9's too.

A bit off topic but, how do you like the e90 on track over your previous A4/S4?

I am basing my comments on my racing on Toyo RA1s in spec miata land...trying to get from 39-41 psi is what most of us shot for. if you get 50...usually the tire gets real squishy/greasy...I have had one session in my Audi S4 where my fronts got up to 60 by accident...(very hot day..over 105)..and that was the strangest feeling...like..WTF is wrong with the car. It was me letting the pressures get too hot. The main thing is not to have big variances in tire pressures...from left to right..or from front to back. You can have maybe 2-3 lbs difference from front to back to try to achieve something ..more oversteer for example. BTW, this is for R compound tires...

For street tires..so as to not ruin them...I would bump them up a bit...but IMHO, 50 is a bit too high for my tastes.

Compared to the A4/S4 in the straights..the 335i rocks...I am still dialing in the suspension on the 335i..and dont have R compounds yet...so I cannot comment on handling yet. My second Audi S4 was dialed in pretty nicely...and handled very well with adjustable aluminum upper control arms...aggressive camber..coilovers...rear sway bar upgrade...nice light SSR competition wheels..and R compounds.

S4 - Have you had the car corner balanced? I was thinking adjustable coilovers with corner balance and alignment, sway bars, and perhaps a bit of camber adjustment up front.

I ran stock+2psi cold pressures with stock RFT's and had a front end push.

No...not yet..probably will at some point...yeah..mine pushed real bad at the track...I am probably gonna put on the H&R rear sway when I put the differential in.

BTW, I dont know how these Car and Driver drivers are saying the car is real nice at the track...it pushes badly...it goes nicely in the straights..but when put up against a car with coilovers and R compounds..it is left in the dust in the corners.

Although my front end did push, I was able to minimize it by loading the front with trail braking, and hanging the tail on acceleration. I would not say mine "pushes badly" for a street car.

I was trying to hang with my friends with Stage 3 Audi S4...and so I was trying to really get everything I could...they were eating me alive in corners. I was trying all kinds of stuff...double apexes...trail braking...and I was also testing the various traction control settings. I think I exaggerated a bit..not pushing badly...but definitely pushing way more than I wanted. I was lazy and didnt try to adjust pressures to minimize it..why? because it was 39 degrees out..snowing....and windy... It would do way better with the coilovers I currently have installed.

Cool, you mentioned R compound tires on a well sorted Audi S4? I don't know if there is anything you can do to compete with that...(until you get better rubber yourself of course!)

Yeah..since I teach for the Audi club...I gotta figure out how to hang with that crowd...I had three Stage 2 S4s...I think the second one was dialed in the best though..even though it was an S4 Avant. Nothing like at an event...and the driver of an M5 (400 bhp version) with Hoosiers comes up to you and says..."you driving that red wagon?" ...I nodded..."you were haulin ass". (I gradually caught up to him after being behind about 3 corners...passed him...and them proceded to pull away.)
